TOPSPEED PROBLEM REVEALED !!!!!!

simple yes or no would have done rod.
always on the deffensive
wasnt comparing your car to any other car as not every does top speed runs (doesnt float everyones boat)
and yours was the best "off the shelf" available.

In a way I am happy as I always expected it to be the pistons that would cry enough first,
There are pro's and cons of looking at using a old block against a new one so we will look at whats happend and why then make the decision as to which one to use.

can understand that completey rod
as you say can make a descision when full diagnosis is done, sensible thing would be to bring forwards what you were allready planing and quitting
but then again, not many "sensible" people have a 900bhp sierra , and might regret not completing what you wanted to
tough descision
would love to see it rebuilt, as the past year or so with this car, martins in preperation and a few others, it really has bought the top end off the ford sceen back to light and shown that the world isnt all skylines and supras

25k is a lot of miles for a engine like yours to of stayed together.
Surely rebuilding it to the same spec on a new 200 block isn't go to break the bank that much ? IF everything else is in one piece that is
Good luck with whatever you try to achieve and if you do knock it on the head you have achieved more than most people ever will

even if you dont decide to bother you have done more than enough to push the blue oval to new levels and the records been set
lets see how long it is till it isif broken by someone else etc
shit news but chin up it could be worse !!!

Personally i think you guys have done really well to get where you are today ...well done and I'm really gutted to hear about your block ..but the mileage its done says a big statement about what you have already done and no doubt will continue to achieve

Personally, I think you always needed a 6 speed box with a taller top gear to lower your rpm at 210mph, running the power at the rpm you do amazes me its lasted this long, I agree with those above its been a fine effort so far but please don't give up yet as its unfinished business, anyway what else you gonna do in retirement?

Rod, Mark, Congratulations, you properly fooked that block, and i know beneath the pain your smiling quiety...
Do you realise Rod, that i suspect you are actually somewhat older than the fathers of 80% of PassionFords members? Food for thought people... especially as most of you couldnt drive this car, let alone your fathers.. lol
Wont go into it pal as im tired, but thats not the way forward at all as you would then need to design an engine with more power than this one to suit your planned higher gearing....

Gutted for you Rod.
Its a testement to the quality of Marks engines that you have had so much troublefree use and enjoyment for 25k miles at such extreme power levels.
I hope you and Mark rebuild the car but thats your decision and its achievements are a credit to you and Marks meticulous preparation and dedication.

Rod
I agree with what you are saying there Rod, but thats also why i think if everything is still found to be fine except for the block you should rebuild it and go and set the record it should have been capable of doing, your block blantatly was a victim of not just the amount of power it saw but also how long it had seen similar levels (ie 700+) for too.
If you bolt it back in a brand new block it will almost certainly survive a top speed run, then you can pension it off by putting a smaller turbo on it and it will last for ages.
Your money though of course, so your decision, easy for me to say i want to see it run 210+ when im not the one funding it.
Would a decent custom girdle not drastically improve the durability of the block Mark?

Sorry to hear of the bad new Rod..... I just wanted to let you know what an inspiration you have been to many of us, not just in the UK. But all over the world, I'm based in Hong Kong and have followed the amazing achievements set by you and Mark for many years!!!
I am fortunate to have friends who have access to the most exotic and highly tuned cars i.e. 1,000+hp GTR's etc in the world, but on many occasions I will remind them that the small 2.0 litre engine under the bonnet of my Escort Cossie, is the building block of an 4 door saloon that can top 200 mph!!! Yes, your car!!!
A big thanks to you and Mark in giving many of us new and greater targets to aim for

gutted to hear this Rod.
Real same its gone right at the last hurdle, just before you was going to call it a day.
is it worth it to carry on?
money and time etc.......
what is there to carry on for if you have the top speed etc....to better it..
sorry to say it but it may be the time has come..
Well done for what you have achieved, the both of you.

I hope you will rebuild it maby a diffrent stronger engine is better idea.
Now is the time for new engine like modular ford engine(32 valve cobra engine they can handell more horsepower than your yb cosworth engine.

Rod and Marks efforts are for the fastest Cosworth NOT the fastest Ford Sierra.

Rod gutted for you mate but you nothing else to prove you been there and done it a number of times
Also the 1st 200+mph cosworth in the world
IMO Time to call it a day and let the rest catch up
Is it worth spending more money for one last event??
