You found the limit of a 200block then!

Would liners even help with the torsional strength of the block?

Where on earth could you go from there then!!?! Even increasing the capacity wouldn't reduce the force around the crank (from what I can tell) so that wouldn't be a solution!

I guess 2 litre pinto blocks just wern't desgined for a real 900+bhp!!

It wont be soon & it wont be better, think we found the limit of a YB.
Not sure what to do, may just walk away & say 206 aint bad for an old Sierra. Mark will strip it down & check whats damaged. If its totalled, its game over as ive neither the time or inclination to start again.
Will chill before i make any decisions, car will make a good base for a future Topspeed car if i quit, anyone interested.

Surely though if cars in Malta are running your sort of power for drag racing with what i would presume would be a 200 block then it could just be a case of bad luck, and not a case of finding the yb's limit.

Your car has been a huge influence in the world of Cosworth Tuning,

Surely you can't give up just yet, although imagining the money involved I couldn't blame you if you did.

rod just a question

was the block long studded.

when i say long studded i dont mean your traditional longstudding.

i mean the ones that go all the way through to the main caps, like they use in sweeden and norway?

sad news indeed.

There is another designe of Liners that we could use,I will be looking at the engine and seing what broke then look at a fix,
Also this was the original block we used in Rods old 500hp engine so it has already done 25k with 500hp and 5 of that was with 75hp nos, and 10k on this engine so we may also have found the life span of this block and mods.

Lighter and has a taller block but those blocks are only rated to 400bhp so Martin was running over the limit anyway and Millington blocks aparently have a habit of cracking in na form.
Gutted for you Rod however it seems like its more bad luck than anything.
Hope you dont give up as the car has been a big influence to a lot of people and would be a true loss to the scene despite all the banter on here I properly respect your car.

My block was the best available, as were pistons/crank. Lets see those Scandinanian drag cars do 13 ( yes it went on the 13th) 200mph Topspeed runs at Brunters. Big difference from a drag run to Held Flatout for 1.5miles we just found the limit. Marks special pistons. crank & rods outlasted a Mountune Nikasil linered block with lots of other tweaks.

Are blocks only made from cast iron for cheapness and for easy machining? surley they could cast in steel and it would be a lot stonger. Paying for a one off casting would give the wallet a good hammering though

Was it defo the last run that caused the damage though or just as mark suggest the lifespan of such an engine.Ie 25k miles. So if built to same spec again could it not be used for another say 20k as it more potent now.

Can i say im a bit upset at the mo, as most people who Know me realise i was planing to quit end of March after Vmax & a mag feature. These will now not happen & im proper gutted. Totb was never an option & despite pressure from totb to run it was past my cutoff date.
Will wait to see the probs & time/cost of a fix & make a decision, remember im not a company so no monetory gains to carry on, im also a lot older than you guys, would your Dad carry on .
