coilover top mounts?

just taken delivery of a set of gaz coilovers.upon offering the front one up,it doesnt seem to sit in the original rubber top mouint.do you have to modify the rubber or something.
oh yes it is on a rs500.

right,ive fitted them and they do fit tight against the original top mount.but the length of the rod which is sticking up looks like it may touch the bonnet,the bonnet is off at the mo so i havent tried it yet...anyone come across this?

if its a common problem,what is the cure,or does the bonnet fit?
i suppose the best way is to try it tomorrow,if it doesnt fit and no cure-its back to konis and ebay for the coilovers!!!!!

ill photograph mine tomorrow too.
ive used the original rubber mount and offered the strut up,then bolted it up.
the struts were already built up so i presume nothing is missing,all there is on the front struts are the strut,spring,bump stop,top collar and the nut.doesnt look like it can be fitted wrong and when its tightened right up its solid like it should be.
just wondering if there should be a spacer,or mount on top of the top collar which would bring it down a bit???
