A lot of Ford cars were traditionally made in Britain.
In fact the first Ford Motor factory outside of the USA, was opened in Manchester in 1911.
All the old classic fords were made in England... Escorts, Capris, Cortinas... until they started to move to Europe due to cheaper manufacturing. But even still, Ford UK played a major part in the design stages.
So, I guess that we Brits kinda think (or used to think) of Ford as being quite 'British'. And there are loadsa Fords here. U can stick to your Peugeots and Citroens thank you

Genuine question why do French people only really buy Peugeot and Citroen etc? Just because its a domestic company?

Peugeot / Citroen. I kinda think its a good thing that the French buy their own cars. At least they still have a large mainstream automotive industry. Lucky them...
Does anyone else find it a bit annoying / interesting that we have lost all our traditional British automotive industry? All the big names. Either gone bust or have been bought up and taken over by German and American companies.
Where did we go wrong? We were always innovative and great engineers.
How come the big German, French and Swedish manufactures survived and prospered?
A least we still have the best kick-ass specialist, sports and racing cars. Plently of British small volume manufacturers.

Steve its because our companys either produced VERY bad cars or was run by bad mangement. My side of the coin thinks that the French are not right to do that. Why by X car if its ok and its made by home maker when Y car is same price far better car but made over seas. Just a case of protectionism somthing im glad we dont do over here!
Would u buy a top of the range Focus or BMW if same price?

its happened to our car industry, bike industry and now its happening to our aerospace & defence industries (my area of work)...
Very sad... lots of reasons, mis-management, no goverment backing for industry etc etc. I don't think tony blair has ever visited a manufacturing facility in this country and what else makes a country money but making and selling stuff to other countries
rant over
