i sorted my rev issue my fitting a sexy Stack tacho which is progamable so you just double the revs back up. it looks a dam sight better, is a lot more accurate and reads high enough for my extra engine revs.
hope this helps.
Cheers. Adam.

Does it involve a few diodes, or something more straightforward ?

Mark the loom and ecu will be going off to you tomorrow !
Ryan , ive whipped the engine out for the sump change etc... hope this doesn't prevent you from finishing off ok ??

I need to do some more testing at higher revs on the road at the weekend as only revved it to about 3K so far. I have an engine monitor in my car as a reference point and the tacho reads the same as this up to 3K. I am taking a feed directly from the coilpack triggers on the 3 pin plug on the loom.
As said before and worth repeating, I am using a VDO tacho in my car that was originally running with the old coil and dizzy setup before I converted. Ive made no changes to the tacho and as far as I know it works on the same principle as the normal ford tacho would??
I am also using dizzyless coilpack straight from a P8 with Pectel board.
What method did you use Stu and what results?
Will post up the results of high rev testing when I do it.

I'm hoping the threads below can help a friend out - he's running one of Simon's boards (which doesn't run his rev counter properly), and hopefully may also apply to the dizzyless P8 that I'm running (?)

The circuit diagram on http://picasso.org/mjlj/?q=node/2 is pretty much the way I have done it. Albeit that info is for a 8 cylinder engine setup with twin 4 lead coils. Same principle though.
Its an expensive modification mind you.
Mine cost me 21 pence to do.

so would the kickback with the 18V zenner be man enough to drive the ford clocks...? SECS...? what dya reckon?
stu - how did the trial go with the above ...?

DAMO, a zenner diode is a special kind of diode which works as per a normal diode until the voltage across it reaches the breakdown voltage (18v for example) and then it will conduct in the opposite, way, think of it as a voltage regulator
thinking about what i just put in the above post - is bollox -
it will make sure a spike of at least 18 v is made available to the tacho... so yuo will actually get some parity between the high and lows of the back emf..

so what we need to do is make the circuit
have its 2 inputs from pin 1 of each ignition amp....?
RYAN, could you make a sub loom that would incorporate this as part of the coilpack loom, and give the output to the green wire back to the tach - would this mean not having to earth and supply the tacho from the ecu ground and live as per SECS fix to the problem?
