JIM GABALLY if my turbo is shagged wont there be other symptoms ie... smoking etc, the car has no symptoms and no smoking even when u start it up......also if its an airleak will i hear it when stationary, how do i find where its leaking, will there be more chance that its one of the turbo pipes or a pipe at the back of the engine ..thanxs all

I've just removed my old airbox and fitted a K&N cone filter to my 2WD Sapphire.
F@#k me does it suck now, having never been a cossie with one it's such a sucker as the turbo is spooling up.

A whistling turbo is a sign of it being out of balance AFAIK.

In an ideal world yes. It's possible that it may have quite some life in it yet, but if it is out of balance then it's only a matter of time.

it sounds like a police siren but in a woooshy way if u catch my drift, and gets louder as the turbo spins up, one thing i have just this second noticed is ive got a disconnected 5th injector and the fuel line is disconnected could this cause the air leak?? where would the airleak be in one of the boost hoses or would any hose cause it??

not necessarily no.

also if the car hasfault like that itcan be "hidden" by fucking about with the fueling etc. soo it "appears" to idle properly

does the car have a dump valve on it? if so throw it away NOW

ok, get all those hoses off and check for splits and make sure they all secure on properly.

also souble check all your vacuum hoses, make sure none have come off or are split (the aftermarket "silicon" look ones split VERY easy!

no mate i said im running a standard airbox.....the car is a 2.0 zvh fairly heavily modded etc, the 5th injector is connected but is disconected as it wasnt needed when it was last setup , the 5th injector is welded into the charge carrier but the wiring plug is not connected and the fuel line isnt connected, but the hole at the end of the pipe where the fuel goes through about 7mm is open could this cause the said leak????, cheers

took all the hoses off plugged the 5th inj fuel pipe with a screw took pipes of found a really small split about 2-3mm lon on the pipe going from the charge carrier to the intercooler but difficult to see if it goes straight through??, there are a few marks where its been rubbing on the jubilee clip that holds the water pipe onto the turbo i think?, the same pipe was a little loose where it joins the intercooler at the top because its so difficult to get to with the airbox on!, so did them all up and taped lots of insulating tape overthe split(only temp to see if it helps , i will buy a new asap)..........now the bit that concerns me i took the turbo pipe off and checked for play on the turbo turbine there is no in and out movement but a little bit up and down difficult to say id say 2-3mm maybe, but there are no signs of it catching the outer housing , im going to take it out soon to see if any of what ive done has helped
