Default XR3i starting issue

hi guys, hope someone can help. i have an escort mfi cabby. engine in good condition. got a stage 3 head with fast road cam. set up at power engineering 2 years ago. i have a stating issue which is causing me a big headache . the car will start perfect in the morning (kept in a gargae). no probs. maybe holding the throttle sometimes. but if i turn it off then try and start it again it just cranks and cranks. then i need to throttle it to get it going. but it just judders when trying to start then fires? could this be a metering head problem or maybe a the fuel accumlamtor problem? if i drive the car and leave it a few hours its the smae just cranks. please somebody help.....

Probably vapor lock in fuel system.

There's a one way valve on top of your fuel pump. You'll have to take off the fuel line and then you can see the valve with the little spring inside.

Change it, problem solved. You can get these valves at any Bosch service station. Not sure if Ford sells them.

Ford doesn't sell the valve separately, just the whole fuel pump.

Try @ Bosch.

as above I had same problem when I did the temporary conversion to mfi turbo, was the one way valve or lack of it, ford want something like Ł90 for it but got it off ebay for about a Ł10er, they do come up fairly often on ebay as I see them looking for other stuff

Probably because it's attached to a new fuel pump

Try Bosch. When I bought a new one some years ago it was less than 10 EUR iirc (less than 9 pounds).

Hi I've got the brand new valve and cap and washers etc. Will be fitting it this week. I hope so. It's cabby weather lol. Keep your fingers crossed for me. Cheers

We sure will.

There might be another hot start problem you might face on a car with a higher mileage:

When you try to start the car it struggles and not all cylinders are firing. It just runs on all 4 after flooring it and giving it some revs. This is caused by leaking injectors. They suffer from wear and because of the vapor lock fuel is pushed through the leaking injectors and flood the engine.

Keep that in mind. But also the price of the injectors. Though they're very helpful with the mentioned problem and they will give the car power back, they're not as cheap as your one-way valve

As you didn't ask for further assistance, your car starts fine now?
