Many use hammerite - or smoothrite when rebuilding.

Heat resistant paint is probably for exhaust manifolds etc - so it will be matt finish, unless you can find a heat resistant lacquer to cover it with.

hi mate what you want is engine enamel, its shiny so it looks the bollocks and is heat resistant up to 700 celcius,

take a look at this photo, i did my rocker cover on my escort then polished up the lettering, only took about 45mins and hasnt come off yet.

Hey buddy, In my case I wanted my rocker cover red again but with the lettering in Silver (not the raw alloy as it tarnishes over time)

So I had the whole thing painted silver first.

Then a coat of the red is painted over the top.

Once the rocker cover was dry I put in a linishing machine and delicatley sanded/ground the very top later of the red paint off, as all the lettering is raised it removed the red on the lettering and exposed the silver paint that was underneath.

Obviously if you just want the one colour and the lettering to be original plain alloy finish then all you have to do is lightly sand the paint off the lettering once the rocker cover is dry. Use wet n dry sand paper wrapped around the end of a file for a smooth flat finish.

I hope this makes sense to you, as I've now confused myself

either as snow has already said or if you're handy with some masking tape and a blade then you could mask out the alloy bits and very very carefully cut out the lettering.

or of course you could stop being tight and get a pro to restore it for you
