Sapphire 4x4 dails/cluster differences
Evening all,
I'm looking at returning my clocks/cluster back to o/e spec.
They currently have a set of white dials fitted.
Now these are 170mph dails but instead of fighting with the stick on whites I've
decided to buy another set to swap them with.
Best option I thought until my replacements arrived, now I've not taken my unit out the car yet to compare part numbers but the replacement has no rest post for the Rev counter needle...everything eveythese looks okay.
so as you do I Googled it...Some have the seat belt icon, some don't, some have the resting post, some don't.
Any input please as to what's correct for a May j reg 4x4 with a face lift dash or just the differences and are they likely to work.

The seat belt picture was an early MK2/2WD thing. Late 2WD onwards do not have it.
I am not sure if there were any wiring differences between 2WD and 4x4, if not it should work.
On later models the fuel gauge changed from litres to fractions IIRC.

Thanks Martin, so are 170 clocks an upgrade that people do from a 2wd to a 4x4?? Or are they correct and I just need some without the seat blt icon??

the facelift dials had a different cluster body to the earlier ones too
it's like 2mm smaller as the hole it goes into is smaller, but otherwise it's the same thing
not all had the rest either
you will need the actual cosworth rev counter, with the C under the needle to read correctly, the fuel, temp gauges should be ok to swap over but then again, the temp gauge might have used a different sender, the senders have a different colour band to denote what range they do
the speed should be a direct swap over if it's the 170 one

Ok folks, So the cluster in the car looks to have had the original black decals removed and the white dials glued on in place of them as I can see and feel a sticky residue like evostick.
The replacement cluster has the "C" under the rev counter needle, the fuel gauge reads 15/30/45/60 and it's a 170mph speedo, a seat belt icon.
I've plugged it in and everything works as it should except the hazard warning light icon but the indicator icon illuminates fine.
It looks a alot better plain and o/e but I will search for a proper replacement correct to my year.

Not sure what you mean by 'hazard warning light', as there isn't one?

The green indicator icon....I'm sure it illuminated before when I depressed the red switch on the column top...but then again that flashes for the hazard lights....perhaps I've finally tipped over the edge...

You don't need the actual cosworth rev counter, any 4 cylinder rev counter will work. The Cosworth rev counter with the 'C' just means the red line is at a different value (~6500 RPM vs. ~6000 RPM for normal Sierra clocks). And I believe some Cosworth clocks don't even have the red line at all.
