Question oil presure problems! any one help??

hi im haveing a lot of oil presure problems with my fiesta cosworth

had engine in and out 3 times

1st time oil presure gauge was reading 40psi on hot or cold idle and at any revs. so as 40 psi on hot idle is very good i was convinced that the gauge was just sticking at 40, un till the bottom end started knocking after only 100 miles

2nd engine was bought purely for the crank and a rod and spares as it had a melted piston and i also bought a new burton power HP oil pump etc BUT the crank was suposed to be orignal size and perfect but was -.75 grind and not 100% perfect so not wanting to use this in my good engine i changed the piston and put in new shells etc and put it in (different oil pump to the 1st engine and also diff head, block, sump, pick up pipe etc) and the engine did run spot on but still low oil presure. sames as b4 but ony 35psi at all times

i fitted a new oil presure gauge when changeing the engine 2. now have both mecanical and electronic gauges. both give ruffly the same reading

after this i was thinking it must off been 2 poor pumps and was kicking my self for not just putting in the new burton power one in the bodge up engine

3rd engine. back to the orignal block and head but a perfect crank and new burton power oil pump etc. and the oil presure is worse than it was on the old pumps. now im geting 40psi cold idle and 20 hot idle and the worse bit is that when reved it drops my 10 psi! as im sure you are all aware oil presure on these engine should be around 30psi idle and with a small rev shoot u to 70/80 psi

i have now tryed

removing the mocal oil cooler kit (incase blocked)
changed the standerd water / oil cooler (incase blocked)
changed oil filter and oil type

all were fine and made no diffrence

then thought about the oil feed to turbo restrictor hole size
and it didnt have one. i was sure that this was finaly the problem as it had a 6.5mm hole and should be 1mm but this made no diffrence at all
so im now all out of ideas after many months of problem solveing

any help would be much appreicated

cheers

what oil are you using ?

did you put a gasket between the oil pick-up pipe and the pump ?

Useing 10/40 semi synthetic as ive been told its good for running an engine in

have also tryed 10/50 fully synthetic

both give same low presure

yea. 2nd engine was just a used gasket with a light smear of sealant and the one win now has all new/correct gaskets every were

orignal set up was already built and was just put in. Cant get my head around what it could be. 3 diff pumps. Different everything on one and still same low presure

I wouldn't run semi in a new engine, but anyway.....

Are you using a standard oil filter ?

Is the sump standard below where the pick-up pipe sits ?

Where are the pressure gauge take-offs ?

What are the crank bearing clearances ?

Are you using a 4x4 or 2wd oil pump ? 2wd sump? which dipstick and dipstick tube?

Yea standerd genuine oil filter

Standerd sump had a different sump on the 2nd engine

Gauges are on a T Piece of of were the presure switch is on the block. All oil ways were thurrerly cleaned out and checked

Bearings were suplyed from same place as the crank and are corret for it. But surly this wouldnt of been a problem on all 3 engines / crank

Me and many outhers just cant work out what it could be. Just the way it drops with a slyght rev is very strange

Its all 4x4. Sump, pump and pick up pipe

that was going to me my next question if there is any difference between the dip stick for 2wd and 4x4. Ive no idea what kind ive got. Have you any idea of how to tell? Its got a yellow ring pull handle if that helps

No one any outher ideas? Cant be pump as ats 3 diff ones and theve all been poor and this one is new. Also wen left for a while when started (left to idle/low idle when cold/700rpm) it wont give any oil presure till reved. Ive only ever left for around 5 sec as not to cause damage. Small rev up to 1500 rpm and oil presure creeps up to 30 psi
