Ive took the dust covers off on of the bushes which has a bit of play in it.The other bushes dont move up or down or side to side(apart from the one ive took apart)

If i push one side of the bush to the right the opersite side of the bush moves to the left.

Thanks for the info Steve.I think you might be right Steve and im starting to think they are ok.

Steve what does your car feel like with poly bushes in the rear.

Also fitting these diff mounts like MSD sell.Do these make a massive difference to the handling.

i was posting on my phone which would explain why the pics looked like the main beam bushes and not the arm bushes

diff mount is a must as it holds everything together much better

don't forget that there are only 3 places the whole rear axle mounts to the body, beam bush either side and the diff mount, so you want to update these to prevent the rear end from being all over the shop

i found the best way to check these bushes is on the car. see if you can move the joint with a big bar. polybushes are a good replacement for the std ford bush on anything but a cossie. the diff mount makes a massive difference, i use an escos rear axle with solid beam mounts and a poly diff mount. reduces roll as well.

So are solid beam mounts better or worse than poly ones?

some guys have picked up on it but others haven't but the cossie rear trailing arm bushes are a spherical metal bush what you see on the outside is just a dust cover. if the bush moves up or down (holding both sides with ya fingers) or in and out on both sides then yes it's tired, if it moves opposite each other then it's fine.

changing them to poly bushes is a backward step totally...Metal doesn't move or compress plastic, rubber etc does
Anyone taking good std bushes out and putting poly ones in are daft!

I have poly bushes in my race car only because the XR4x4 comes with std rubber bushes not the sperical like the cosworth..

to recap them bushes might not be knackered!

*edit *

found a pic of a bush with the dust cover removed that I took out of my old cossie 10 years ago that had failed so you can see what the bush looks like inside

steve
Is this true, cause I was sold some original outer ford ones (the bigger ones) and with holding the outside casing, the inside moves from side to side but also moves the other side in the opposite direction...

It's just I've just brought the two inner from ggr and they don't move at all /

Duno if I've been ripped off or not....

It is a joint and should have a little movement yes

The new ones will need a little wear to move them by hand I'm guessing
