There were defo limited number of pure black sapphires (2wd if I'm correct) we have an ebony black 4x4 (ebony black was a later colour on 4x4's afiak) its almost black dark grey and is metalic, not proper black - which are the rare ones

Well I'm certainly not 100% sure, thought there were different shades/colours for the rwd and 4x4 i.e magenta on early sapphires then was it was noveau red on later 4x4's, flint grey were 2wd then ebony for 4x4, I do know that proper black (non metallic) sapphires are rare (Lynne may be right saying 12, someone from Norfolk RS group had one), haven't a clue if there were any early sapphs in ebony, surely the plate under the bonnet should tell exact colour, ours does - can't remember all the different colours cossies were available in (is there a list on the net somewhere?!), perhaps we need to do a thread on the main forum find out all the different shades
I am pretty sure that Lynne is correct and only 12 proper black sapphires were made from the factory

Should be on the front panel where the bonnet stay and grill is attached to Lynne, a small rectangle metal plate with writing stamped on - does it look plain black to you? Chances are you are right though! Post a pic!
Hey Dinger, long time! Was USC 2002 last time I saw/spoke to you! Hope you doing well, thinking of ditching the R5's for a Ford?!
