Default Tapping 2wd cossie sump

Has anyone tapped a thread into the side of the sump without any probs, seems there is enough meet on there to save a boss being welded in.I want to put a 5/8 union into the side for my oil drain return

Not really thick enough, imo to do this reliably and safely, it's only around 4mm thick, can you not use the sump plug and put a adaptor in there for return ?

Having to undo a jubilee clip holding on a pipe to the sump plug is less hassle than a tapping in the sump failing though!!

If the sump is off you can use a plumbing fitting like the group A cars did.

Mine has a nut on the inside - spotted the very same fittings in a hydraulic factors for a few quid. Dowty seals are there too... the rubber and metal ones.
