Default help wanted , new sierra owner

Hello guys,,
\i am now a happy new owner of a moonstone blue 3 dr.
just wanted to ask a couple of questions..
my one has had some work done by the previus owner, ie...
t34 3" exhaust k&n larger intercooler,greens, chip only boosting 12 psi..
how do i know what chip is in it ,,ie what stage,..
also it seems to be running a bit rich, black smoke, is the best idea to put on dyno?
its done over 100,000 mls but believe its had new piston ring etc , a couple of years back...
also thinking of putting adjustable boost controller, low boost 10psi high 15 psi , are these systems any good?
any help would be great guys.......
thanks........

Hi and welcome,

To see whose chip you have you need to open up the ECU,and hopefully it will have a sticker on the top identifying it, even if you have a receipt this could well have been changed since unless it's a recent receipt I guess, for a T34 to be fitted it is most likely to be stage 3 (If you look at the injectors they are most likely to be green or grey, or could even be the equivalent Siemens 55LB.

Rolling road is a good idea as it allows you to see how it's performing and highlight faults as well, all in safe confines.

No point in boost controller the standard Amal valve is perfectly ok, you may find it's this that is causing your low boost, it should click when the ignition is switched on. 15PSI is nothing that is stage 1 boost, you should have around 20+ generally speaking. There is a simple mod you can do known as "Two stage boost" which involves fitting a switch.

There are only two screws holding ECU on 2WD at least, and four screws on the case itself which are small phillips.

yeer think i will put it on dyno tune, the old owner was going to run high boost but never did bought the -31 actuator but never fitted it,,
i wasnt to sure how much boosat to run, car has done 160,000 miles, and was only looking at stage two..
guess i need to find out what chipits running...
was a bit concerened about it running rich , as i believe a engine running to rich can wear out bores and ring....
last question guys..
what kind of oil pressure should i be getting at idle, i no it depends on what oil i run? was thinkine of a 15w 50 or 10w 40 ???
thanks

With your mileage I would be using a minimum 50 weight oil, but even better with a decent 60 weight like millers.
As the car is new to you I would do a mega service first replacing fuel filter, oil/and filter plugs, and all sensors but at least the all important CTS, coolant temp sensor, at the rear of the head under inlet manifold by dipstick tube, this is most important.
Make sure also the belt and tensioner are done unless you know they have been in the last 25,000 miles, 3 years, just not worth the risk otherwise.
If not already done so rewire the fan circuit, before it burns out, and also rewire the fuel pump circuit.

definatly put it on the rollers, if your upping the boost you may need to look at a group A headgasket too. Its alot miles better to be safe

No problem as said above make sure your cooling fans work, it's actually a suprise if they do work on OE wiring, hence why most of us have rewired, plenty of info, diagrams etc on here if you do a search. The fuel pump wiring builds up resistance over time and the pump can not get the power it needs when under load and so you can end up with a meltdown! These are two weak points!

Default oil pressure guages

Hello again..
I want to install a couple of guages, ie oil pressure.
Whats the easiest way to fit a oil sender,, use a squash plate or a tee fitting of the original engine sender...
what size is the oil filter thread size on a 205 block..
to install water temp sender, is the best way installing a fitting in the radiator hose before the radiator?
thank again

I have the T off the original pressure switch as I want the light as well.

At a guess I should think the water temp sender is best installed in the top hose as then you are getting the temp of the coolant leaving the engine but not sure.

T fitting that screws into engine is 1/4 npt and sender is 1/8 npt does that sound right?
