Different ratios, so the Cossie rack is 2.6 turns end to end and the non-Cossie is 3.6 turns. My numbers maybe off but you get the idea.

There are three ratios used on cossies, and 2 used on non cossie, but this is not the only difference, the rack has limited range on the cossies, due to the actual "rack" part having a shorter section of teeth, so it doesn't give as much steering, this is why when on the BTCC cars they used the std non power racks they needed to fit rack limiters.

As I realized, non cossie racks has more steering and more steering wheel turns.
How about steering speed? Is one turn on cossie rack has the same angle as on one turn on non cossie rack?
My rack is rusty inside and has leaking. And it is no chance to find cossie rack in Russia. What I will have if I will use non cossie rack instead of my?
All about 2wd.

Obviously a rack with a lower number , eg 2.4:1 will turn 1.2 full turn each way of the dead ahead position, compared with say a 3.3:1, which will have 1.65 turns each way of the dead ahead, so the lower the number the quicker the rack, ie you get more road wheel movement for the same steering wheel movement.
Most of the power racks that are non cossie are 2.71:1 or 2.56:1, 4wd non cossie tend to be 2.84:1, the manual racks go up to 4.15:1, so at worst a 2wd power rack is likely to be a 2.71:1, you'd be hard put to notice much difference, during normal driving over a cossie rack.
The racks are dead easy to re seal, or could just convert to a non power rack, you can get kits up to 2.2:1, but will be twitchy big time, ie sneeze and you're in the ditch ha ha!
I may know of one for sale soon if interested, pm me(not mine btw), but is one I built.

I rebuilt mine, thank you. The shaft was straightened. Rust was polished. And new master rebuild kit was fitted.

Will see....

P.S. my rack is LHD

cosypop, as you are from USSR, why is it so many people there use video cameras in cars, I'm always watching clips on liveleak, youtube etc, is it due to fake crashes/scams ?
thanks just curious

Many people use small video registrators in cars for evidence in the case of road incidents.
Since the accident is unavoidable, this videos is in the internet.
I haven't registrator. But was one crash, where it would help me. Otherwise, I can't prove my rigth. And I can't receive money from the insurance company.
Sorry for my English. I think, you understand me.
