Default Inlet differences

What inlet manifold differences are there from the 2wd/4wd sappfire and the escort large turbo/small turbo? The reason i ask is that i have read several times now that people with big hp conversions use a small turbo escort inlet manifold. So maybe there is a particular reason for that?

Theirs differences between volume and the neck design - it's progressive, the newer the inlet design the better.

I have a 4x4 inlet with a Reyland spacer and it works fine for now on my 2wd engine

Most of the ones that are changed are not needed, the original 2wd one is capable of good power, depends how much you have, personally I would always try and keep the plenum volume as small as possible.

The 4x4 ones are far improved over the 2wd ones and unless your going for over and beyond the 400 hp mark is all you need after that id suggest a hart plenum as that far exceeds any of the oe ones in terms of flow and volume..

Are there any differences from a sappfire 4x4 one and a small turbo escort one?

Yes the st escos one has a larger t/b and has an even better flow advantage and can see over 500 hp with a spacer but imo if your going to go to the trouble of sourcing/fitting one of them id go for the hart inlet..

The hart plenums are £500 all in with the linkage and throttle bracket and are far better than any oe plenum..

A st escos plenum and t/b can set you back £300+ if you can find one..

At the moment no mate but over 500 hp when tested back to back on the engine dyno the hart plenum was far superior..

On mad rods engine it made another 47 hp iirc over his 500 plenum and on the test engine it made 30 hp more at circa 500 hp and the torque was increased right across the rev range
