Default headlining retrimming

time has come to tidy up the iteror of my cos over the winter, so the saggy headlining must go

will the original saggy cloth restick ok, or is it better to replace it with new stuff?

whats the best fabric glue for the job?

Cheers
Dave

One of the jobs I should really do, there was a thread on here a while back of someone's mate who was remaking the headlining looked exactly the same as OE, but you can do as you say by using spray glue which some do and is probably how I will go about it.

I retrimmed my old focus's headlining, changed it from grey to black. Bought a kit off ebay with stretchy material and a couple of cans on super strong spray glue, looked shit hot!

I tried resticking mine a few times with loctite spray glue, but it wasn't happening

If you try DIY, use high temp glue and try to get the old sponge off the cardboard backing before you restick. I'm just going to get mine properly recovered in the new year.

The cloth will most likely of lost its foam backing which will be on the card still, new material and a good clean on the card to remove the dried foam and its as good as new.

Thats pricey for mates rates Jimmy, i can get the material and have it fitted by a local trimmer for less than half that

Wouldnt work would it dont you have to take it back to the cardboard in order to flock as you cant flock over material?? if you do then how do you go about material that folds over into the sunroof area ?

I had all m trim flocked black

U will need to take it right back to the roof card/template? Everything is straight forward, but as mentioned u need to take off the sponge also, which is a real time consuming job.
Done mine couple years ago, and went for black perforated headlining material, something like the new cars these days come with. Also got rid of all the beige and colour coded all plastics etc to black(i think the beige starts looking tacky over time).
Looks the nuts now, people have commented and incases, taken on the idea themselfs but does darken the interior, and at night u defo need lots of lights!

Tbh i dont think it makes a drastic diffrence as when yiu drving at night theres no direct light on the light surfaces ie roof lining etc if anything as its slightly darker around you it makes the gaues appear brighter which can be dangerous.. Iv got 5 bright blue defis in my face at night

Hi .. I have done my headlinning my self ... quite easy to do the cloth thing when you have it all on the floor ... except for the part where you remove it from the car and fitting it again.

I got a full kit from Woolies (3,5m cloth and 2 cans high temp spray glue) at around Ł44+vat and carriage ... and the quallity seems even better than the original stuff

And last ... I'm very happy with the result

right, it's all out and stripped, i've scraped and hoovered off all the old foam.

i was just wondering if i had to get the glue residue off as well, and if so, what solvent works best without screwing up the card?
