As said defo needs tapping, you most likely will have to open the hole up a bit in the pump but lots of meat to do so, some one was seriously over tightening to strip a thread there!!

to be honest tabs the hole is smooth inside,my first thought was that maybe a dowel went in there, but i cant remember taken one out when i removed the pump.possibly someone in the past has had a go at drilling the threads out and not completed the job.
tabs what size tap would you use to re-thread the hole.

just to update, had another look at my water pump today as i was painting it,if you look at the picture you'll see that there is a hole in the block but no provision in the pump to put a bolt through, has anyone got there water pump off at the minute to have a check to see if this hole is supposed to be threaded or is there different pumps that actually use this hole.
