below is a diagram with just enough to get the pump and dash lights working properly (ignore the fuse ratings and numbers - that's how they were in my car, not standard)

Not to piss on anyone's fireworks, but if his car is a road car (or at least needs a MOT) - don't remove the ABS! According to 2 seperate MOT testers, it is not legal to remove the ABS system when originally factory fitted.
When you turn up for your MOT, the tester has to enter your reg (or VIN) number into the system, and it prints out a MOT test sheet. On this, it has whether the vehicle had ABS fitted as standard, optional, or not at all. This then requires them to test accordingly.
I had both my 1988 (E) plate 2wd sapphire cossie numbers entered and they both came up as 'fitted as standard'. Therefore if I were to remove the ABS system (which I already had!) it would fail the MOT regardless if the rest of the car were showroom standard.
If anyone knows different please feel free to correct me, but I did challenge the tester and he showed me the written proof.

In my opinion if the car has abs as standard it is testable. But all the tester will be looking for is that the light comes on with the ignition and then goes off after a couple of seconds,I do like the idea of wiring it into the oil light!

Wiring into the oil light means it will only extinguish when the engine is running, there is another way to do it so it goes off like a delay (Like it should anyway), in any case it's easy to spot if it's been dopted.

A lot of you are also missing an important point, even if it goes through an mot, you should tell your insurance company about this as i have heard cases of them voiding insurance on vehicles where it was fitted standard and then removed.... their claim is they insured a car with abs(a saftey feature,) if its removed its not the car they insured. If you tell them however you'll be covered, but expect a hike in the premium....

by rights mate if abs was fitted as standed it should fail because an abs lamp is not fitted, does not illuminate and does not follow the correct sequence

i don't know what written proof he showed you mate but there is nothing in the testers manual to say that it show be fitted at time of test, it just says if the light does what it should and there is somthing missing from the abs the presenter should be told about it.

below it the actual page from the testers manual abs section.

cheeRS nick.

This ABS inspection applies to all systems fitted as 'standard', and to 'optional' systems fitted.
When testing vehicles that have ABS fitted the road wheels should not be allowed to rotate clear of the standing surface with the ignition on as this can cause the ABS system to indicate a fault which may require specialist equipment to rectify

Missing components
Where a vehicle is presented for test with an ABS component obviously missing but, follows the correct sequence of operation, the defect must be brought to the attention of the presenter.

If the vehicle is fitted with an anti-lock braking system, check that

a. a warning lamp is fitted
b. the lamp illuminates
c. the lamp follows the correct sequence of operation
d. does not indicate a fault.

Note: The sequence varies with the type of system. Refer to VSI, the manufacturers or other reliable data, eg purpose produced charts, books, etc. 1. The warning lamp
a. is missing
b. does not illuminate
c. does not follow the correct sequence of operation
d. indicates an ABS fault.
