Default MSD chip with ALS ?

Help needed please

have recently bought a new chip with ALS
I have now got round to to test it, and something seems a bit strange.

If I activate it via a switch, when the engine is cold, it will drop the rpm, and car becomes undrivable. Now I know that it is not supposed to pop and bang when cold, but seems wrong that it affects the way the car drives. I was of the impression that it just wouldn't activate if some of the ALS parameters wasn't met (like engine cold).
Have I misunderstood this - or installed it incorrectly?

When engine warm and if I rev it, it will pop a bit - but I will not test too much if something is wrong.

I have connected PIN 13 through an on/off switch to chassis earth.
And modified the ISCV - but no other modifications. (descriped as very mild ALS in the instructions)

any inputs highly appriciated

When it's activated, it does affect the way the engine runs and how the car drives, the idle become very rough and the revs drop, also i found that the car wasnt nice to drive at low revs but thats not what it was designed for, it meant to be used when changing gear at high revs. It does sound strange that it works when the engine's cold though, best thing would be to contact msd i would say.

Thanks for that explanation - I just also thought, like you, it shouldn't activate when cold.

Why not just leave it switched OFF until the car is warmed up ?

That is one option I suppose lol although if its working when the engines
Cold then there's obviously a fault that needs rectifying?

oh but I do but you know the feeling if something is supposed to work in a certain way - it should. (my impression was that it shouldn't activate if engine was cold) - I might have misunderstood, which is why I ask if anyone have experience.

when you turn it on at idle the revs do drop, and the engine note changes. Never tried mine from cold. But it shouldn't activate at all when cold i thought?

have you tried phoning them?

No, it defo shouldn't work until the engine is up to a certain temp,
can't remember what it is now but Stu demonstrated it to me on mine when I picked my car up.

I am pretty sure you need to do a mod to the ISCV with ALS?

EDIT: Ignore that as I see you have done it.
