Well when i did it today the flux capacitor sent me back to 1988... was not happy!
Whats a coil kill and oe switch?
I have not tried it yet as i saw it and went inside.
Yeah i got her back today and have not took her out at all! As i am only 21 and been driving 2 years next month it will be £700 cheaper then! i dont think £1300 is bad for no claims (not crashed just been on my mums )
P.S. Dont want to sound dumb but should the engine get really hot after a drive (was not thrashed, never went over 70)

The switch is most likely as said a cut out switch to try and stop pikeys, though this is the first place they'd look, can simply cut the earth to the ecu and then no fuel pump or sparks, just starter.
Std means standard as in a standard switch fitted by ford, which as said this is not.
Yes 4wd sierra badges and 2wd different.
If a cossie is maintained right just because it's old doesn't mean it can't sit in traffic, if correct will sit idle all day long without problem.
The two most vital things apart from servicing are a new fuel pump loom and a new fan loom, the fan loom was crap to start with, made worse by the choice of temp switch used by ford as it had such a high hysterisis(span) used to make fans stay on so long that fuses/fuse boxes/wire melted!!
Getting too hot to touch is normal, I certainly couldn't without pain keep my hand even on the rocker cover after using the car.

Maybe the switch is no longer connected, or was used for something else entirely.
Coming on here to ask when you don't know is not a sign of thickness, everyone starts somewhere at least you've got the intelligence to ask!!

My old 3 door had a switch the same as this in the same place and it was a "2 stage boost" cut into the earth wire for the amal valve. Was fitted by a Ford dealer at the same time as the Motorsport chip!

One of the things you will learn with these cars as with nearly all is that have been bodged over the years, with things being added/removed especially electrically, alarms etc.
These cars do get extremly hot underbonnet, the bulk of which is generated from the turbo, as with any engine you certainly will not be able to touch it after it's been running.
As said you need to check the fan loom and fans actually work, they suffer as standard with the mentioned problems with fuses burning out and melting fuse boxes and hence a no fan situation this is due to coming on to early then staying on for sooo long, the power at the fuel pump needs to be checked UNDER load to make sure it has adequete power otherwise you can lose your engine.
The badge is different the Sierra RS being two different words on 4x4, whereas the 2WD is the traditional MK2 badge a one piece design with a black backing.
Amal valve is the boost control solenoid (Called Amal because thats the company who made them in Sweden) The idea of the "2 stage boost" (It's actually merly on/off is so you can run lower boost or full boost for your setup) at the flick or press of a switch. Easy way to tell is to drive with switch in both positions if it is this it will run lower boost hence less power than it will in the other, something of course you can only tell when you give it a bootful, it will not go back to fusebox if it is this it simply sits in the earth for the valve (Be even easier if you have a boost gauge as you can see what boost your making)

Thank you for your reply!
So where can i find a fan loom as i bet i will need to fit a new one and also the fuel pump. well at the moment i have a leak as i can smell fuel, i believe i will need a new tank It is going up on my ramp tomorrow so i will have a good look under the car. Can i do any of the rewiring easier from here?
Alot to learn!

You can buy them both pre made (Ryan on here, works for Car Looms UK) or can be done DIY job fan needs a SPST relay and some decent heavy duty wire capable of handling the power the fans draw and a fuse holder. Theres a decent wiring diagram on here in red if you do a search.
These cars never overheat when fans are working properly, this is only true on older cars which had mechanical fans driven from the engine, the Cosworth ones are quiet efficient.
Fuel pump is done in same way although you use original relay as the trigger.
Wiring can be done easier if up on ramp as it makes it easier to get the the actual wiring at the fans and the rad switch, and gives you easier access to pump wiring at the back of car, it's just two terminals on the pump.
