As above really.....

I'm running approx 400bhp, t34.63, siemens black 55s etc

My diff had sprong a leak and I didnt notice so now its started to whine

Cant decide weather to buy another standard diff or to buy something a little special

If people could give me advice based on their experiences that would be much appreciated

gripper diff with a shot peened and super finished crown wheel and pinion has been awesome in mine mate

Thanks for the reply mate....how much is the gripper if you dont mind me asking?

Also I heard the grippers can be quite harsh?

What sort of usage are you intending for the car?

How long has your current diff lasted with the current power level?

What sort of concessions are you prepared to make with noise if you do use it on the road?

Also, maybe worth reading these 2 threads as it may well help you with your decision or at least give you some background

Just sold a mint 500mile gripper matey, in the for sale section there is another for sale the same, can remember who is selling but easy to spot.

It is a bit harsher than a standard diff but nothing u carnt live with mate! But the level of grip it gives u is like night and day over the standard one i have 500bhp and around the same torque and i get good grip with it with r888s. It cost me 700 for the diff unit a mates dad did the shot peening on the cwp it was about 70 pounds for all the bearings and seals from oakley bearings and a new pinion nut and crush washer was about a tener from ford then i did the work but i did have to mod the caseing as its quite a big diff unit

The car is mostly just a weekend car with the intention of the occasional track day
As for how long its lasted, i've not had the car long, only about a month or so but as far as I'm aware the diff has lasted fine
As for noise I'd rather it wasnt screamin its head off all the time as I do like a bit of relaxed cruisin and I occasionaly take it to work which means it'll have to be on the motorway a bit

Basically I want something reliable and not too harsh..just dont want to keep throwing money at standard diffs if there goin to keep breaking

I'd certainly read those 2 threads then and take note.

Unless you can source a second-hand plated diff AND are capable of fitting it yourself/have a mate who can fit it for you at a reduced price, you WILL be looking at a 4-figure sum for the Gripper/Titan/Quaife diff.

The uprated VC diff that Bara do costs a bit less but obviously still has the problems with the inherent weaknesses of the gears. I believe Ronnie Amis still has his fitted and is entering Time Attack in his 3-door with a VC diff. Also see the comments from Tony Ryan on VC diffs

If you can ( and it's extremely difficult unless you have lots of mates who have cars with the different types of diffs fitted AND will let you drive their car ) try and experience the different diffs before you commit yourself as it's quite a lot of money to splash. That's all I would say

Pacwest, have you any experience with the mc2 eaton diff as thats looking like its going to be my choice?

Total cost for parts new and fitted by CTS comes out at Ł1390.

Yeah that was a good read in fast ford. Im very tempted by one in the near future, looks a decent bit of kit!

Thanks! I have exactly the same problem. My Cossie has the same spec (t34.55) and I broke the 7,5" diff driving out of a roundabout in 2nd gear no clutch, boost was rising to "just" 1,8 bar and BANG the diff was gone.
It would be very interesting to hear what diff to buy. I am using the car for occasionally race and drift, and not as a daily used car.
What diff is good for this purpose for a reasonable price?

U wont brake a gripper but u will brake the crown wheel and pinion so u can iver get them shot peened and super finished or get your wallet out and go 9inch

You can break a gripper, I broke the cross shaft in mine a while ago but when you get them serviced they can see if the shaft has worn. I've still got the smashed bits somewhere.

the shaft was Ł30 ish plus a couple of planet gears I think the total rebuild of the diff was Ł180.

They are the bollocks though

I am thinking of trying the Titan diff because its supposed to be a lot more progressive.

I am however now a bit torn between an mc2 plated and a bara uprated vc....reason being is, the car will be used mostly on the road as a 2nd car (plaything) and occasionaly on track so the vc might be easier to live with...I do however like the fact that I'll probs never break a plated diff...decisions decisions

Tabetha, what is the benefit of the detroit locker mate?..just trying to consider all my options here
