cosworth wiring gurus in here...
right here we go again, for the past 2months my car has just been cutting out randomly,i was just driving down the road last night and it cut out at about 30mph in 3rd gear, changed down gears and let clutch out to try and jump it while it was still rolling but it wouldnt start.
pulled over got bonnet up and oldskoolfords and kidsrs off here started trying to see what the problem was, they wiggled a few wires and it fired up and ran perfectly all night,it has done this 3 or 4 times now,and last time it did it my mate wiggled and checked alternator wires and a few others and it started and ran perfect all day.
when the car does cut out and i try to start it it'll turn over no problem but it just wont start.
ive replaced the crank sensor, ignition module, alternator and coil, and im going to get a full sensor kit put on it eventually, but has anyone else got any ideas what it could be or how to test the wires?

Crank sensor, phase sensor, coolant temp sensor and clean earths up. They would be my first things to do and dont cost much.
Speak to Mcrash, he may give you sympathy and other things to check. His has been doin it for aaaaaaaaaaaages now too.

Next time it does it, BEFORE wiggling wires, see if it has a spark, as this will at least count some things out.
NO point wiggling loads of wires then having another try, as doesn't tell you which one was guilty.
The LOOM side of the cps is a fave problem, but these more often than not cause misfires etc first, but whilst the car is running pull on the wires, twist them etc, even a slight murmur from the engine could put you on the right track.

With it also having hiccups, I would defo be looking at the connector on the loom side of the cps.
The connectors are around Ł3, I have loads if you need one/any.
The problem is that when they start making intermittant contact it causes micro arcing making the connection even worse, you can try with a pin squeezing the female grip side together a bit tighter, and put a slight bend in the pin side.

Cheers for reply Cossynut2, was interested in his specific problem as its same as mine, i suppose it does not cost anything to clean earths but where do you start in locating an intermittent fault in the wires within the loom ?

PassionFord Post Whore!!
Some years back i had an intermittent fault, as you were driving there would be a sudden complete loss of electrical power, the rev counter would go back to zero and then it would fix itself only to do the same thing again a few minutes later. After checking everything/ replacing all sensors etc it still did'nt fix it and so in the end I had a new engine, fans and fuel pump looms put in. Instant fix with no more problems!! What you have to remember is that the original Ford loom is probably 30+ years old. You can also buy a complete new set of all the chassis earthing cables which eliminates another potential problem area.

Thats where i got mine mate, then again if its going in for a new loom and ecu ect then they might make you an earth kit at the same time.

Thanks mate will be getting the bay loom from them so that makes it easy 👍

For the extra that it may cost and for peace of mind I would get them to include the fuel pump and fans part of the loom as well. With that done and the new earthing kit everything should be spot on.
