Default Head gasket differences

Having just bought anew head gasket yb0611 I noticed that it differed from my previous gasket. After looking further I have realised that there are quite a few that differ on ebay. as you can see form the picture in this link, there are only holes for the water galleries on one side....

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/COSWORTH-YB-RE...ht_1117wt_1167

yet if you check this gasket, there are holes both sides

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Cometic-Head-G...4#ht_716wt_941

So this means that running the gasket with no holes would completely block one side of the water galleries off?? Im confused. Can anyone clear this up????

Thanks

only to the untrained eye. You can clearly see the differences lol. The first picture, notice at the bottom of the gasket how there are no holes for the water galeries. Now check the second picture. There are holes both sides.

Maybe the small holes just aren't visible in one pic, maybe they just need some flash clearing? Seems odd that a "Group A" head gasket from a seller with over 1,000 feedback all 100% positive would be shonky gear.

But it makes me LOL a bit, that the expensive one has the extra holes, the cheap one doesn't

On the 2wd heads and I assume 4wd too has no water flow through those holes. The head itself has no holes for any water to pass through on the inlet side.

I will try to find some pictures...

ahhhh lovely, thanks for clearing that up. Isn't it a bit of silly of fords to of designed a head where the water only flows through one side?? Surely that creates a hot spot on one side of the head. Kind of weird. Anyway thanks

you find this on a lot of cars when working in the trade ive had this many times and fit one with lesser holes without a problem tho never on a cossy. imo it would make more sense to have water to both sides of the head for cooling purposes defo.tho they do say the 4wd head was better for cooling as it was an evolution of th 2wd head what with the different thermostat housing etc... but if my head didnt have xtra holes to match up with the gasket then i would go with the one without the holes to ensure a good seal

The heat transfer will still take place, there is plenty enough area to flow sufficient coolant around the head passages, won't be a problem.
