new member, new cossie
Hi all,My name is Ray. I have been a guest on passionford for years. I recently bought a 3dr cossie a few days ago so I thought it was time to register.
I have been looking to buy a 3dr for years and finally I did it
It is the first cosworth I have owned and I really enjoyed the drive home when I collected it.
It is prety much standard apart from CXNs 17x8 upfront and 17x9s on the rear and has a MSD coilpack conversion. The car is in good condition and I am really happy with the purchase.
I am planning on maybe tuning it to about 330BHP so I guess a stage 2 job. Before that I plan on fitting a mongoose exhaust as the original one has nasty rattle and a KN induction filter. I will probably go to elite in rainham and buy the.
Or should I get the stage 2 and buy the exhaust and filter the same time
Is this a good start?
Any one now of any reliable tuners that can do this for me?.Ideally in London.
I will take a few more pictures over the next few days.
Cheers

Well smart, looks so clean condition.
330 is basically stage 3, so you will need, injectors, map sensor, chip, I would get all your stuff together and then fit it all at once, although even a decent stage 1 brings massive torque/driveability increase, even more so if it's one of the NMS gunship chips.
TOTD are not too far from you are they ?

Hi, Thanks for the kind words.
Thats makes sense to get everyting done the same time. I am new to this so
Pete that is the one.
Tabetha, What do you mean by ''NMS gunship chips'' ?
Cheers

NMS = Norris MotorSport, most cossie tuners do their own chips for the ecu.
The chip in the ecu is what controls the fuelling and the sparks(timing), modifying these by way of chipping, to add more fuel more boost etc is how these get more power.
NMS do a fab stage 1 chip that produces near enough stage 3 torque levels lower down anyway, they term this the GUNSHIP.
But any chip from one of the big well known outfits would do the job well, some just prefer certain ones.
Once you get into it, if you want to, there are literally thousands of different combinations of bits, most of it has already been done by someone, so you get accurate feedback as to what does and doesn't work.
The whole ecu, Electronic Control Unit can be changed for after market or upgraded from the L1 fitted to the 3 door cossie, the ecu is the "brains" where the chip lives, and what controls engine running.

Hi,
Tabetha, Thank you for the explanation. Very helpfull.
I was going to take the car to motorsports developments cos I have heard and read good things about them, But they are about 250miles away from me.
I might even check out norris motorsport and get some info on there gunship missile chip.
Fordrs2005, that is the car.
Cheers

330hp is basically stage 3
stage 3 =
bosch 803 green injectors/ siemens 55lbs
t34 turbo
3 map bar sensor
rs500 style intercooler or 4x4 intercooler
chip to suit
just make sure the basics have been done such as a fuel pump rewire for a direct feed from battery. a MUST for all cossies.
the stage 3 is very common and most chips will be off the shelf; so i would order your chip from MSD and take it to MA Developments in Berkshire and save yourself a trip to blackpool
MSD recommend MA Developments to fit his chips

Pity NMS don't do off the shelf chips
The gunship requires taking your car to them for a live map If you are going to that trouble, you may as well put stage 3 parts on and get the car live mapped for them

Hi, Thanks for the help guys. Much appreciated.
I will take a few more pictures over the next few days and post them.
I am so busy at work that I have no time to drive the poor thing!!
Turboshed, The previous owner installed it for reliability. I think!!
PaulRS, Yes that makes sence. Shame I could not just buy the gunship missile chip and take it somewere local. But I think I might just have to make a trip to Norris and get the car sorted. I have read about the gunship chip and it seems really good with high torque figures and low HP. I think this is just for me as I am not a high speed driver, I just like to rev it out in the middle gears which I think is perfect for this chip. I just have to check that my car is realiable mechanically before getting this done. The torque figure of about 320 on the gunship missile chip looks very impressive.
Cheers
