Default Smoke on overrun??

My standard Sapphire Cosworth has got Blue smoke on over run

It's not all the time just now and again but when it does it, it's quite a bit.

It does not do it on boost or whilst driving normal just when decelerating.

Any ideas anyone, it's fairly low milage (41,000)

Surley can't be rings can it?

I'm hoping turbo because it's a straight forward swap

there seems little or no play in the shaft, I'll take to boost hose off tomorrow and check for any oil,

turbo.

was no sign of oil in any of the pipes on mine but when i was rebuilding my engine the plenum chamber had a nice coating of oil inside which can have only really come from the turbo.

if you can afford it though buy a new turbo, i bought 2nd hand and it's ended up coasting me the same as a new one by the time i've had to have it rebuilt as it was just as bad as my old one!

my brand new t34 still gave a little blue smoke on over run when i had it fitted but it was 100% better than the old one that caused me to be surrounded by my own little blue cloud everytime i stopped for a few minutes at traffic lights. reconditioned turbos also caused me lots of grief until i ended up buying new

Could be the turbo, could also be the rings, the clue would be in the pipes between turbo and engine.
I would make sure the breather is nice and clear at the same time.
Recon turbo's are ace if done by the right people, if having a rebuild, get a step gap seal mod done, this can save 90% of the oil consumption a turbo sees.

Turbo as said before but also a possible cause could be worn intake valves seals...

(Tabetha what is a step gap seal mod as I don't understanding it by the title...)

i got told once it wont be the turbo but the valve guides get worn and even with new seals the oil creaps past

The normal rings on the end of the shafts are snap rings, so they have a gap as they need to due to them being sprung, this allows oil to leak past, a step gap seal is just that, a small mod that effectively closes the gap by addition of another section to close it off.
