Do Saph's still get the cossie appeal ?
I've heard so many times about how warmly Cosworths are recieved by the public , Namely the Escos and 3 door / 500 .
I was wondering is this the same for the Sapphire Cossie ? At first ( to a non enthusiast ) it's not instanttainiously recognizable, without the whale- tail spoiler.
Do you have any Stories about recognition and appreciation with your Saph? or are they viewed as a kindof , cosworth - light ?
Also do you still get the usual stuff of corsas trying to race you, just because you have a Cossie?
I'm asking because i remember seeing in Fast Ford a while back , the Sapphire being described as a ' Wolf in Sheeps clothing '
And wanted to know if it went under the radar for most ppl ????
Thanks Ollie .

my saph is a basic Azura 1.6 no side skirts, vented bonnet or front bumper ect.. not cossie looking but running cossie engine and runing gear, and yes i still get the corsa small hatch effect, only thing that gives it away is the scorpion rear box.. i get asked is that a real cosworth.. i just say no.. knowing my luck id boot it off and get pulled by the only police car in the area..!

i will always look at a saff cossie,i love them. and mine did get attention even before it was tigerstriped.
not many know what they are really as they do look a bit plain compared to the others.
i would still happily own a saff again even though i own an escos
as for racing,i had all sorts trying it on with me.saxo's,nova's, evo's and porsche's mostly i was quick enough to despatch them or keep with them, lost out big style to a mclaren slr though but it was me taunting him because i wanted to hear it at full chat he did have 300 horsepower more than me though lol

I get vvarious spunkbubbles tailgating me as soons as they've clocked the badge. Depending on what mood I'm in, what they're driving, or what road I'm on, they get ignored or smoked, so on that front, yes, they do still get recognition.
Occasionally someone will stop me on the forecourt at the petrol station and start chatting about it - "My mate used to have one", "Nice to see one one the road", "Haven't seen one of those for a long time" etc etc.
But the 'general' public probably have no awareness at all - the lot that are more interested in eeking another 0.1mpg out of their VW diesel because it'll save 1.2p a week on their fuel bill.
Basically I think it's a case of if they know what a Cosworth, or even a Sierra is (regardless of shape), then there is some recognition.

Mine seems to get attention from the "right people", people of a more mature age usually pass comment while at the fuel station (which is where i spend alot of my time!) along the lines of, "you dont see many of those around now, especially in that condition"
And the other day, a spotty 17 year old in a saxo vtr said "whats that piece of crap, looks like a family car some grandad would drive", my favourite comment i think

20K+ Super Poster.
I get odd comments, the last being from a chav, is it a diesel, I said yes it's not a real cossie, he said I know, so when I came out of halfrauds I showed his mate the engine, but not him, he was so pissed.
What i think it is with sapphies and thier innocent looks is you never know what's under the bonnet power wise, has he tuned it is it real, how much bhp etc.

I'll probably get slagged off for this but fuck it.
I think personally the Saph is the best of all the cossies imo.
I prefer the looks, the way they drive and the fact they go unnoticed by a lot of people which means I stand more chance of it still being where I parked it and still in 1 piece when I get back!
That said though I still get loads of people coming up to me and talking to me about it.
And yes, I do still get the rudeboys on my back bumper when they clock the cosworth badge on the bootlid! They dont stay there for long though!

My sapph gets plenty of attention
There are lots of people out there who know exactly what it is. Those who don't? Well that'll be their downfall when they try it on

in my opinion, the saff cossie are the best looking Cossie....First when the 3door came, it was the one, .....well all that changed in 88' when I saw my first Saff and I couldnt wait to get my hands on a 2wd Saff...but as it is here in Denmark cars are very expensive...and at that time a 2wd where around Ł35-38000....so I hade to wait until 95' to have one...and I still have it, and will have it to the end

You should try living in New Zealand with a Cossie.
Hardly anyone knows what they are. You do occasionally see someone who does though and get some comments etc. I used to get someone saying 'cool car' about once every time I was out driving it at night in areas known for 'boy racers'.
At the moment, I tell people I have no money cos I'm rebuilding my engine, and they ask what car it is, and you can pretty much guarantee they won't know what it is. I just tell them it's got 400BHP and they like it ha ha
My FAVOURITE experience was almost passing an Aston Martin DB9 in a race but had to pull in behind because of an on-coming car. He was shitting himself ha ha
My usual competition are the jap cars, EVOS, WRX's, Nissan Skylines, Silvias, 200SX, 180SX, Holden Commodores & Ford Falcon V8's or Falcon F6 Turbo. I was at some traffic lights once on a 3 lane road and I had a Nissan Skyline GT-R on either side of me. It was wet and they smoked me (4 wheel drive).
The people that DO know what they are here usually know because their dad likes them or because of their role in the Australian Touring Car scene, which is now V8 Supercars.

Ha ha, I was THINKIN that but didn't wanna SAY it ha ha. But now you've said it, we can all join in ha ha
Mine is standard to look at apart from smoked lenses, 4x4 bonnet, clear front indicators, rude exhaust. SLEEPER , but then, all of a sudden...

Ta. I was experiencing minor technical difficulties but seem to have it sorted now ha ha.
The best bits to look at are under the bonnet & that's how it should be! And the VERY best bits are inside the engine

i was after a moonstone 3dr but ended up getting a moonstone saff,2wd of course
i get quiet alot of people look and comment on it,which is nice.but to be honest its more older people that know what they are.
ive had chavs in a corsa look and laugh then race me before off a roundabout down a dual carriage way but by the next roundabout they looked very shocked
younger people just dont seem to know what a cosworth is, they only know scoobys and evo's

Happily retired
Does it matter that your Saff dont appeal to others. I chose a rwd Saff cos to me its the best a 3dr probably looks the nuts but the Saff is so much more sorted. Dont like Escorts that much so easy choice for me.
When i used my car on a regular basis, expecially locally, i didnt get far before it was recognised & boy racers backed off cos they know it wasnt worth having a go .

im always getting people comment on mine, its great, as always its in the petrol station, and as ever you always get the comment "i used to own qone of these it was 5million bhp"
as for kids not knowing what they r i would dissagree, you would b suprised,
the boy racer things never bother me really, i just let them over take, it will give them something to talk about down the park,
