I have mine where the std coil was, but moving it sometime to under inlet to look tidier.
It will be cooler behind bulkhead panle bit but certainly not drier, there's plenty of water gets in there with the air when it's raining, the reason they put drain flaps along the bottom edge of the panel.

Mine is bolted via a homemade bracket to the two rear bolts on the plenum cover which has been welded to a coilpack bracket.

Hi,

You need a driver installed to your ECU by the likes of MSD then you need the coil pack, twin ignition amplifiers and new igniton leads.

Some models need a mod to the rev counter as well.

Benefits are better reliability, better spark and no misfires.

Kind regards,

Martin.

remember your coil pack and leads should be at least 12" from your map sensor, to avoid the emf effecting the signal

If you have no misfires, they cannot cure them, plenty of big power cossies were running around with old fashioned dizzies with no problem.
I use a ACCEL coilpack, same as early zetec, but much stronger spark, part number 18114, about £60, but the std ford one would still be an ace coilpack over a std coil.
I found improvement in smoothness, far better idle, even on greys, cannot tell it is running, as my tacho is knackered!!

the biggest benifit is you can run wider gaps without misfires on boost,

the wider gap gives much better burn, better idle, better emmisions, which is something most people in the 80s just ignored lol

How hard are these to fit your self then.I take it you need to put a chip in the ecu?

I run .8mm gap, wide gaps came about on lean burn engines in the 80's, coilpack is cheaper to produce than a dizzy etc, that's why they came about.
On some tachos it is just a case of switching cylinder numbers to get correct reading.
I have just bought a V6 granada mk2 tacho for mine, but my ecu is aftermarket so can adjust it in there, and even calibrate it if it is out at all, runs coilpack direct, no amps or anything just pack and leads.

Not plug really and play at all?

It involves cutting and soldering inside the ECU....

I've done Stus conversion, my advice is if you don't have a good fine tipped soldering iron, don't try it.

I have a L8 ECU and I was wondering how can I purchase this kit (I'm living in Greece...)? Are there any instructions about the soldering inside the ECU included so I can solder the wires myself?

I got Stu to fit my board as for £40 it wasn't worth fucking the ECU, i don't suppose anyone has any ideas where to fit a coil pack on a 3dr as i'm struggling to find any room for it.

I thought the coilpack had to be mounted off the body (base of pack not on the metal) as that one in the pic looks like it's just screwed down so i'm mounting mine with legs like the posts on the twin amp bracket

Makes no difference whether on body or not, just try to keep away from certain components that's all.
I used one of the many holes already near the std place for one bolt, just drilled one more hole, it's only held on by two thin bolts.

Read it again stu, the question was not I have a big power yb and have problems etc unless the is a post missing that I have not seen ?
The point it was making is it is not and never will be a cure for a problem that does not exist in the first place.
Just think it is a lot of money for what it is to cure a problem that may not be there.
People go on like it is some magic cure for all which clearly it isn't, if nothing needs curing in the first place.
Just pointing out money could be better spent elsewhere on upgrade etc.
