Don't fret about brand of oil. Just choose a good filter and the right grade.
I'd ude a Ford filter and any synthetic 5w30. Mobil 1 is a good choice. Take your pic really.
Don't forget, it's not the oil that's synthetic, it's the additives that are. I've seen guys pay 4x the normal amount for the "good stuff". Multiply that over a couple years and you get the cost of a rebuild and the engine is protected just as well.
Your driving habits, warm up and cool down habits along with the proper grade will have FAR more effect than brand. Buy what you think is good but buy the right grade. Use a Ford filter.
The internet contributes to the BS, just go with what has worked for 20+ years.

i think 5w30 is too light though. the manual recommends 20w50.
i just started using some synthetic 20w50 and i can at least tell that it's running smoother now.

5W30 way too thin, use a 50 weight, or if a little tired use a 60 weight.
Mobil 1 is fine, as it is ester base, if you use 5W30 it will drink and not protect very well at all under hard use.

KidsRS where do you live? If you live in the UK then you should either buy Mobil 1 Motorsport (15w50) from Halfords, or order some Silkolene off Oilman off here, if you don't mind waiting/paying for delivery.

i am using mobil 1 0w/40. i am begining to think it is a little thin. i have been recomended castrol rs which is thicker and will stop my slight tappet noise on warm up. is this a good oil to use ie better than 0w/40?

Castrol RS10W60 is now edge, and still crap, it drinks it like water, I've used it, mobil or silkolene is best, especially if used hard or a little worn.
As said Matt L for mobil 1 01922 692424.

dont bother with any of the above - by far the best oil i have EVER used is Silkolene Pro S 10/50 - its simply the best
do a search on here for silkolene pro s and loads of people use it in there Cossies
buy it from oilman on here or visit his website www.opieoils.co.uk (you get a discount) - he can also give you all the you need on oils
