Default will it deliver ?

Hi Guys. I currnetly own an RS2000 4x4 mk6, and a MR2 rev3 turbo running approx 290 bhp ( or so the previous owner alleged ) the MR2 is really rapid and when on boost delivers a real kick in the back.
However, having owned the RS first, i can't seem to shake my lure to RS's and want to sell the MR2 ( not even had it 4 months yet lol ) and buy a Saff
The MR2 is a great little car dont get me wrong but it simply doesn't have that magic RS Factor, and never will have.
I just love anything RS and naturally always aspired to move up the ladder to Cosworth ownership.
The only reservations i have are on the performance side of things ?
I want the Cossie try and snap my neck every time i press the loud pedal ??
Incidently i'm probably going to sell the 2 to my Dad, who thinks he'd walk me 0 - 60 if i got the Saff. The MR2 being lighter and all that. What do you guys think ? would i need major amounts more brake to stand a chance ?
BTW im only interested in getting a 2wd.

Thanks alot Ollie.

The whole point of a cossie is tunability, you are unlikely to find a std one, a(good) stage 1 will slaughter the mr2, but of course this is not expensive neither is stage 3.
If you want a real kick fit a T4, then when it comes in it will break traction easily, but remember the more kick you get with an increase in power, the more you have lost off boost compared with a differtent set up, ie if it's really torquey off boost you won't get as much kick but in real world driving will be much better.

The MR2 will most likely trounce the saph off the line.. better traction.

what is a stage 1 Saff running, 300 BHP ? i've read so many times that Saff Cossies are brutal, and truly hope they are.
I will be made up to own a Cosworth and think they are fantastic even stood still! Just hope it wont be a step back... compared to the MR2 in the performance stakes.
I truly do want it to absolutley slaughter the 2 and almost make me pay for owning anything other than an RS .

My friend had a MR2 turbo and i thought it was quick as fook.I think my cossie would of had a hard time trying to keep up.The MR2 was just all over the road.

What Bhp are you running on your cossie mate ??
They are really nippy mainly due to how light they are, pretty hair raising at speed though due to the lack of weight over the front end.

my rs turbo isn't the fastest but when the boost comes on it makes you smile,a while ago i was in a vxr astra with my friend, when he got in mine he thought mine was quicker which it obviously isn't its just the rush off the turbo i know the vxr is turbo but its smooth, imo you cant comapre a toyota mr poo to a cossie sorry if this offends and that is only my opinion

I hope so wong !

lee You're entitled to your opinion mate, i agree in some respects, they certainly don't have the pedigree of cossies nor the allure.
Have you been in one though ? because they are bloody quick cars, the ride is good too. They are very affordable fun and well built.
It annoys me when ignorant people chat shit about a car they haven't even been in.
Just my opinion though

if the MR2 is 290hp then the MR2 would win against a stage 1 saffhowever it really depends on what you want from a cossie, i would never own a cossie that was less than stage 3 to be honest; and stage 3 is cheapmy cossie was around 370hp, approx the same in torque and a very very quick road car; i set it up to be a quick road car and there wasnt much that touched me on the roadmy set up was, T34.55 turbo, 55lb siemens blacks, rs500 cooler, MSD chipi think you really need to go in a cossie that's stage 3, you'll soon fall in love!the thing with a cossie and why they are loved so much is due to the Cosworth name, the tuneability and how easy they are to work on - unlike the MR2 which is a pig to do anything on

A 2wd saph weighs less than a Rev3 MR2 by about 50 kg.

My mate went from MR2 turbo to 3dr, The MR2 was supposed to be about 280bhp and the 3 Dr is T3 and greens so about 300-310bhp. He says the MR2 is quicker from a standing start but after that the 3 dr feels lots quicker.

...Is a right pain in the ass to work one, the engine bay is so cramped.
I always thought that the saff would be alot heavier due to extra seats and genral size of the car ?
Im trying to find someone near me with a saff how wouldn't mind taking me out,I'm sure like you said i'll be hooked right away.so it would be a better idea to hold out for a Saff already at stage 3 ?

i would - get a decent one to begin with and then get it set up; MA Development (Mark Shead) is in Berkshire, one of the best cossie tuners in the game - you wont go wrong

check the for sale section too; might be a few saff's in there

I agree, the Turbo Mr2 is one of the best value RWD cars around at the mo, the thought has crossed my mind a few times to buy one. We'll see in a few months
