Exhaust hanging?
I had my exhaust off last night. It hangs on three rubber blocks - one at the back, two in the middle of the car and slips into the pipe that comes down from the turbo at the front.
Last time I was at Brands it was hitting the tarmc in the middle of the main straight so I was thinking of removing the rubber blocks and fixing it metal to metal so that it sits a little higher. I can see that the rubber mounting insulates the noise of the exhaust. Does it also allow the exhaust to stretch when it's hot?
If I solid mount the exhaust will it distort or crack something if there is no flex in the mountings?
Thanks all,
Charlie

20K+ Super Poster.
It also has to account for twist in the system as the engine is loaded and unloaded.
I would just try and reshape a bit so it sits higher, then use canvas straps between exhaust and shell, mine hits at the front of the rear box over sleeping plodman's.

OK. I was planning on re-hanging it on the rubbers and adding a couple of u shape pieces to keep it in place. Mine is a straight through pipe with a small silencer box at the back.
