Default dodgy rev counter

my rev counter is playing funny beggers, the rev counter seems to jump up in steps and occasionally goes off the scale, but the engine seems to run fine, any ideas?

Mine used to do the same but it used to run funny too. The rev counter started playing around first though.

Eventually traced it to a knackered ignition amplifier.

Mine does this too. But I think it is bad ground. In corners it kinda floats on it's own, untill it suddently desides to "come back" to the right rpm

My car used to do this too but with an added mis-fire, turned out to be the engine loom, definately something to do with the electrics

Mine does a bit as well - can be a bit erratic. I think I'm going to fix it by fitting a stack one.

I had this and it drove me nuts for ages. I eventually found it was just a poor connection on the multiplugs. There are 3 multiplugs at the rear of the engine. Clean these up as they get dirty inside. I cut the plugs out completely and just soldered the wires together - cured mine.
