Default Starter motor only works when cold

Also posted in the tech help section. If I stop the car for a few minutes, the starter won't spin until the car has cooled down somewhat.

I'm sure someone here posted about this a year ago or so, but can't remember the outcome.

And don't get me started on the "search" function here...

pretty sure its a knackered starter/solenoid. When the car is cold, it has less compression than when fully warmed, so its harder for the starter to spin over. i think

Yep been doing lots of reading, looks like solenoid sticking when hot. Luckily I have a spare starter kicking around, just hadn't planned on lying on the dirt fixing my car today!

LoL, don't worry, I've gotta go out in a bit, gonna take the spare starter, and a hammer, as a survival kit. Just really really don't want to get mucky today, life is too short!

I'd check the wiring to the solenoid first - I bet there's a corroded/dodgy joint in there
