brmmm oh dear
Just done 700 miles on a rebuilt engine
200 block 2wd head.
noticed the oil pressure gauge was reading 20 on idle,,, thought a little low. restart engine and it went up to 30, drove the car and seemed fine boosted a little and the turbo bearings made a noise,, then the oil pressure dropped to 15 on idle....
I was like nooooooo ..... cut engine out and after a couple of mins Restarted engine and oil pressure was about 25.
poodled home and the next day i thought id take the sump off to see if anything wrong.
sump had lots of copper filings in it,,,, I decided to take off the caps ,,, and number 3 for some reason had overheated and there was nothing left of the bearing..... The engine didnt knock though,,
just suddenly dropped on oil pressure..
It was running perfect I'm so pissed off,,,,, so it means i gotta strip down the whole engine and clean out all the debris and find another crank
Walllllet !!!!!!!!! COSTWORTH!

im taking the engine out today,
I think it was either an galleyway blockage or the oil pump .
I've bought a high pressure pump for next time..
Just have to cross my fingers theres no damage to bores etc..
i'll let you know how i get on..

no didnt change the oil pump but it wasnt the original oil pump its one i had from a previous engine, had done about 10,000 miles,
I'm not convinced the pump caused the problem though.
But next time I will use the new high pressure pump.

my oil pressure is similar to that of yours i noticed it had came down a little, its alright when im driving its about 50/55 and when its hot on idle 20 sometimes 15 but never lower, didnt really see it as a problem, hed a build about 5k ago pump was new when the last guy built it which was only 2.5k miles before i bought it so i didnt bother changing it, i maybe drop my sump to see if theres a little debree but i doubt it as it would have done it straight away

The bores still have honing marks not polished or worn at all. phew
I wouldnt of thought they would as i only drove a few miles on lowish oil pressure. I bought a second hand crank and need new bearings and i'll be ready to put it together by the end of the month..
As you say Oil pressure gauge,,, Should have been fitted as standard !!

is your oil gauge a capillary or electrical type?
40 at startup is what mine used to do,,
but it should increase in pressure when driving,, if not then theres a problem.
