Default Battery light!!

Alright lads here we go again. More problems with the mk6. Recently got cambelt and other belts done so alternator belt aswell...My battery light has come on. I assumed it would be because i fitted a headlight bulb the other week which wasn't Ford standard because it came on then but shortly went off and hadn't came on for a few weeks but i was driving the other day and the battery light hasn't gone off since.

If it makes any difference the light isn't as bright as when you turn the key over but the engine isn't on. It comes on even if the lights aren't on and it sort of flickers when i rev when I'm parked like the power I'm trying to use is affecting it.

Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks

Check your fuses, had the exact same thing on an xr2i before and changed all the alternator, belts, tested wiring etc all to find it was a blown fuse in the box. It was labelled as something totally different as well.
Daft really but nice and cheap!!!
Ps most likely you blew the fuse when the bulb was changed.

You need a meter, it may well be fine (those lights aren't fool proof)

If there was a problem the battery would be dead by now!

One thing you can do yourself is check the belt is the correct tension, it won't be the battery and the bulb would not make a difference.

does the light go off as the engine revs rise say to 3k or 4k?

Light went straight off when I revved above there, What does that mean to you?, Went to a garage today and he said since I still had my power steering that it most likely wouldn't be the belt, and It sounded more like an Alternator problem.

You need a meter, this is fundamental as we can all sit here guessing but you don't know what power is present.

I guess he has a point with the steering, however although it works it may not be the correct tension and so it will slip.

If it extinguishes as the revs rise it would suggest the power is not there at slower speeds, which may indicate a alternator or regulator problem.

It's not a wire broken if someone mentions that, that would cause an unrelated problem.

A bad earth engine to alt or engine to battery could cause this.
ensue all alt mountings are tight and earths.
as said you need to have it checked with a meter and really the garage could have done this as it would have taken seconds.

Was the alternator in the end. As I found out on my way to the garage as the car cut out and ran out of power...Good thing it was only down the road...bit of a dear repair!
