Default St220 engine into Cougar?

I have had my Cougar V6 a few months now and would like to sometime in the future upgrade the engine. I would like to go for the 3.0 from the st220 as it should fit without too much trouble. I am just wondering though what all is required. Do i need the whole engine or will the 3.0 block and the 2.5 heads be sufficient? Will the ECU in my cougar work with the conversion or will a 3.0 ECU be required.

I have thought about the st200 engine but wondering if its worth it when the 3.0 will be as easily done(possibly)

Really only starting to research this so any advice would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks

I put the st200 engine in mine very easy to do but you must have the engine from the same year as your car as there are different fuel systems and you need loom, harness and ecu plus the key chips for the alarm system and good to put the st box in allso ,the 220 set up is more work .

Brilliant, thank you very much mate. Worth the effort?

Incidentally, what items can be taken from the ST200 and fitted to the Cougar/ST24 without the need for changing the loom or ECU? I am guessing TB, UIM, LIM, flywheel? Anything else.

Just waying up the options for now, bigger engine is the aim for the future at some point!

Thanks again

Yer all the intake will go on but you will not be able to use the higher flowing injectors (you have to use your standard ones) I found the whole package for £600 with gearbox an all, its better to do the lot in one go and most times cost less and yes worth it makes the car what in should of been !
Here's a list of what they changed and why its best to get the whole package;
ECU, maping (plus ST has a knock sensor)
Air box ,bigger intake and extra port
Different maff and intake bellows (larger)
TB larger, honned upper manafold, larger lower intakes, higher flowing injectors
Honned intakes on heads
Cam's ,lighter and longer durations
pistons ,higher comp and pin changed
lighter flywheel and I think the clutch is better
Gearbox got ratio changes
think thats about it !
But yer go for the 220 if poss or I think the Jag lumps even better !

Awesome info mate, thank you!

when you say you need the loom, is it just plug and play or a bit more complicated?

Incidentally, will the st200 box mate to the standard 2.5 engine and do you know the code/part number of the box?

Does anyone know the max possible power that can be achieved from the standard V6 before going down the supercharger route?

Thanks again

Another question! Can the st200 cams be fitted into the standard 2.5 without the need for the st200 ECU or is it needed?

The loom is plug an play it go's strait onto the 42 pin main body connector ( the one near the N/S strut tower ) and yer the boxs again should fit just fine between models ,as for max power I think with head work you can have 220 like power from the 2.5 and yes st cam's can be fitted in the std engine but yet again a re-map will make all the nuts and bolts mods work to the max ,you could use a daz tech piggy back computer if you cant get the ST ecu I do have one if intrested but again its a large cos for mapping when the ST ecu can be had more readly.

when I lived in the US. I had a friend that swap a 2.5 in hid 2000 Mercury Cougar with a 2.5 out of a totaled 2000 ford contour SVT(mondeo st200) the swap was textbook perfect and the performance change was great.
