mk4 escort -1.8 zetec into 1.3 hcs..
just got a mk4 escort which is very clean but dangerously slow.
i know theres proberly a list somewhere on here but i couldnt find one.
my car is a 1300 with 4 speed box, would like to do an 1800 zetec conversion in the new year.
can i use any engine? mondeo/focus/fiesta..
could somboidy give me a list of all parts i would need to source?
also wouldn't mind keeping 4 speed 'box if i can use it?
thanks in advance shane

Out of many, we are one.
Regarding engines, you hoping to go down the route of injection or carbs?

Engine mount - you'll either need to get a converted one or convert yours.
Fuel tank with pump - unless you run two fuel pumps and a swirl pot
Been told if you run a 2.0, you need to get a 1.8 sump and pick up etc
Pats - I'm not totally sure but a lot of people get an ecu etc Orr pats (think ones called desk?)
Not sure if you have to change the water pump as it might spin a different way?
Flywheel I've heard gets changed..
Unless you found an EFi escort and pulled the injection system and wiring off, put it on the zetec and away you basically go (just changing the mechanicals is then needed)
Carbs - need a set of carbs, inlet manifold, pump, regulator, edis bits and bobs which yours already has. Mount, change a few bits and away you go.

conversion parts
1800 zetec conversion is going to be your easiest option the main parts you will need are
1800 engine and gearbox
hubs with drive shafts
engine wiring loom and all sensors
ecu non pats (passive anti theft system) pre 1994 1800 zetec
ecu to engine wiring loom
xr3i fuel tank fuel pipes hangers or similar
exhaust system
modify the engine mount (cut lug of for bolt 3 then re-weld or leave of
zetec radiator and early mk5 rad hose with fan switch
thats about it then it is the case of 8 or 9 wires to splice into your own loom
just watch if the ecu comes from a 1991-1993 car as some of them had external edis units as opposed to internal edis on later cars
the easy way would be to try source a full mk5 escort 1800 without pats then you will have pretty much everything you need
