Puma Linkage

as far as I remember, my bro just took it off the Puma and fitted it straight onto his S2, only mod he had to do was drill two extra holes as the original ones didnt line up - we didnt have to do anything with the actual linkage at all.
Sorry dont have any pics but a great mod for next to nothing.

You dont need a guide!! lol
Just bolt it to the gearbox end push it up through your floor and drill the two new holes, making sure the gearbox is in neutral and the stick is where you want it to be.

Isn't it a bit pointless unless you have an ib5? None centring would piss me right off. Why not get a quick shift etc which will probably do the same thing?
Saying that i drove a puma years ago and was well impressed by its gear change.

watcha roger, when i attempted to fit on this gearstick, it sat further forward on the hole in the floor to the standard one,
the stabiliser and the linkage are reversed so cross each other under the car,
all so you have to rivet the rubber gaitor to the floor as it is in the puma and it mounts using a rubber mounting that you indeed have to drill new holes for near the hand brake if i remember rightly.
this photo shows the internals of a std on (left) to a puma one (right) (missing the bottom casing)
the std one has springs in to center it where as the puma ones do not come with this.
it is a lovely gear change with it fitted though and the reason why is it a shorter shift is the pivet point on the shaft has been raised.
idealy a merge of the 2 would see the perfect selector but im working on this soon enough

Yeh i remember seeing you attempt to get it fitted m8... It doesnt seem to bolt up as easy as every1 suggests!
I'l go for a proper mk4 escort quickshift i think, complete with a springback/self centering mechanism!

Today I have purchased a ka linkage to make investigation with it. It`s the same shape but not as quick as puma ones. I think the bars are about 1.5 - 2cm longer in the puma linkage. But this is easy fixable by shortening and welding the bars I think. Also you can mount the linkage directly with the original length bars and maybe trimming a bit the floor it has no problem. Also the lever will go further back which is good for tall people.
Another thing is the fixing. S2 has 4 bolts and this linkage has only 2 located further back, but is easy to do the new holes to mount the linkage.
The last thing are the return springs. These linkages have no return springs because the ib5 has them internal, not like the bc.I Think the solution will be simply to make a external return spring setup.
The knuckles Jano mention are also a very good improvement over the standard ones made of plastic. This is essential to the feel of the linkage because all wear in the mechanism finally is transmitted to the selector.
