puma 1.7vct missfires and kangaroos
hello there
my mk4 fiesta with a puma 1.7 conversion is winding mee right up so need your help
done the conversion and it doesnt run right dam thing so going to change lamda as the solus picked up that the lamda was over heated or under heated and it picked up that the cam time was too advandanced so retimed it all after the mot and it ran better it runs well till 3k then it kangarooosss like a bitch till it gets to 4k then its fine but its well down on power even after 4k and it also said that the vct solinoid could be not working right so will change lamda and get a proper auto electrian to do the wiring for the lamda extention
ive now got the new lamda and it still runs shit and when me and da retimed it today put the crank at tdc and the exhaust cam was in the correct place but the inlet cam was retarded so relined it all up correctly and then when you turn the engine over by the crank and the cambelt book says u get the crank back to tdc but the inlet cam has retarded again as when you first move the crank the exhaust cam will turn but not the inlet one and thn it will turn so any help please????????

Did you turn the crank / cam enough to make sure they were synch'd up correctly with the VCT coupling in the inlet? It needs 2 revs.
Otherwise you won't know where the VCT is.
28. Check the valve timing.
l Turn the crankshaft clockwise through two revolutions to TDC.
l Set the crankshaft to TDC on cylinder no. 1.
l Check the TDC position using the special tool.
l Detach both special tools.
29. Note:
Only if Special Tool 303-376 cannot be inserted.
Check the valve timing.
l Undo the affected camshaft timing pulley.
l Turn the camshaft until Special Tool 303-276 can be inserted.
l Tighten the camshaft timing pulley, in doing so the crankshaft must remain at TDC.
l Check the valve timing again.

Good luck!
Ford quote about 5 hours to do a VCT Puma cambelt change.. a good mechanic that knows what they're doing can do it in 2ish. Always worth changing the water pump when you do it as well as the cambelt needs off really to get proper access.
