st's arent a poor man's rs, if new focus st is anythin to go by. 10 seconds faster than rs around the nurburgring n more powerful. Not only that but more of a family car thanks to a 5-dr version

Good to see you all rising to the defence of the ST.

The newer ST models are good cars. The new Focus ST is a fantastic car.

If you seriously think the ST range is anything other than the modern XR though you are sadly deluded

Yes, the RS is a thing of the past if by that you mean models with a long and proud history.

Ford will use the RS badge again but it is rightly waiting for the right model to put it on.

well said qurnE, the focus is just the new name for the fester the hairdressers choice! plus the mundano is simply that! a boring family wagon. but hay each to there own. i think id much rather be flexin in a 83 s1 or 2dr cozzy any day. i aint seen a 600 bhp mundano yet. oh and another thing in the btcc the mundano floped big time were as the 2dr cozzys in there day kicked arse for years and years until the rules were changed to get them off the track coz they couldnt be beat!

I have a red fiesta ST and it's not shy, when I first got it I went to the bankrupt cruise in Leeds and I raced a 150bhp TT on my way home and left it for dead. It's now in Benfield Ford awaiting a new engine Nice car just not very reliable. I wouldn't go as far as saying it's not an RS because the ST comes under the team RS brand.

I take it you have never seen the reyland mondeo then

Had about 550bhp 4wd used cossie motor though but why put it in a mondeo cause it looked better

+ all rs's break on a regular basis all my mates run big powered cossie's and rst's but they are hardly ever on the road cause always somthing going wrong with em

Also why is it that in performance ford mag there has'nt been an rs car thats beaten the st focus round the track

550bhp aint quite 600 is it they had to use a cossie lump to try and add some spice to the mundano! lets see how reliable your st is in 20 years maybe they should track down the rouse sport 2dr with the 600 block, should do the trick

trouble with old cars is they make you look a bit Chavy , but if your happy with that then its all good
i like to pick a car coz of looks and history, i think it shows taste. were as your just a mug thats fallen for the keeping up with the jones's number plate game. i think st's are chavy to be honest. a small over priced porly badged hairdresers car.

i think you will find that the wrc car is ONLY JUST based on a focus, using the basic body shape theres not one panel or part that the st shares with the wrc car. sounds like your another st mug that has fallen for the sales mans bollox. who would bu y a car with the letters st on the back, st= sanatary towl!!. imagine if they brought out like alot of car companys are now, a performance diesel!! it would be the std for fcuks sake!! ill stick with rs i reckon!!

Some people still love the RS's............ but Ford will make no more, the ST's are the way forward. I used to test drive cossies and owned RS's, XR's & ST's you can get a lot of car for not a great deal of cash. We all have a preference for certain makes and models, that will never change, for me I bought an 1998 ST24, 60k mileage, 1 owner, full FFSH, one comment two slight scratches on the car. I have not decided if to leave the car standard or do a couple of mods..........

Who dug this up

Just to quantify what I said at the top of the thread, I think the ST range are fantastic cars.

They are the modern version of the XR rather than a new RS though imo but that is not a diss to the ST at all.

I'm not comparing them to a 20 year old Ł500 Escort, rather the fact that in 80's the XR range consisting of modern, quick sporty cars near the top of their game, much like the current ST range

That's the difference between the ST & RS range for me. The ST may arguably be the better road car but the RS is more aggressive and rarer due to limited production etc where the ST is a mainstream model, albeit a pretty fookin' good one

I still think that Ford will release another RS at some point and it will be comparatively hardcore like the Focus RS was, limited production, keeping the RS name for specialist models.

That's if they don't go bust of course

Ford held a closed dealer meeting some few months ago, the topic of the new RS was raised......... the director of Ford ( europe ), stated...... " The RS Focus branded cars will not be made anymore and no plans are in hand to develop it further ".

I think that one day you would really love to own The ST225 Focus.
Why try and pull down a new performance Ford. The car is so good it has been voted the best hot hatch of 2006.
Dont you think that when your car was new, it would not appeal to everyone.
I bet you buy one.

No toys with mine
Had it Dec 9th 2005, thinking of selling S1 to fund some mods for ST.

I've had it almost 9 yrs and spent prob as much as the focus cost on it in that time, so will be the hardest thing for me to do l'm telling myself not to sell, but i cant help thinking of what 33bhp feels like
You have a stunning ST m8, well done!!

*waves the flag for Fiesta ST's and fiestastoc.com*

I love my little car. She's 170bhp of loud, blue, farty fun I wont say whether its better than this or that because I've never owned anything older than a mk5 Fiesta, or been driven in one so I dont know!

True! I look upon ST's as XR's (EDIT: look at the XR5 Turbo in Australia, Just a ST225 with different badges) and the Zetec-S Fiesta as the Si. Of course ST's have more power because they are newer and all newer cars have more power. One day Ford will burst out and make a Focus RS with 300bhp and 4WD!

Quick Reply: Ford ST models? Poor mans RS?
