Mk1 Auto gearbox Problems
Hi All. Ist post.
I've got a 96 Mk1 2.0 Mondeo Auto. 110000 miles. 4 years ago I drove it to work (about 10 miles) with no problem. At the end of the day when I set off home it wouldn't come out of 1st gear till I hit about 3-4000 rpm. Seemed the rest of the gears responded in much the same way. When it did change gear it went with a massive thud. First thoughts were that the box was not receiving the signal to change, rather than a mechanical fault. I did a bit of research and bought and fitted a sensor. Can't remember what it was called but I got to it via the passenger side wheel arch. The old sensor was destroyed trying to remove it. Needless to say it made no difference, but I did read that some of the pattern part sensors were not up to the job and needed a modification. I did swap the multi position selector switch as well but that made no difference either.
The car belonged to my father who died 9 years ago, so it's got sentimental value and I'd really love to get it back on the road. Besides that, it's a beautiful car to drive.
There's plenty more info on this storey, but I don't want to bore you. Can anybody please help with some good advice?
Thanks for reading.
