hi guys great site here
right i am trying to relive my early days and just bought myself a 88 e plate xr3i last owned one in 1999 lol it was a stolen recovered car since getting it home battery was flat etc now its all charged and back in the car tried to turn it over but starter was jammed so thot ok lets try a bump start well that didnt work as when then the clutch pedal was pressed the whilst in gear the car didnt move after rocking it back and fore in gear got the starter to go straight away she fires up now shes runnin there is a lot of clattering from the bell housing and when you press the clutch pedal omfg you get a load of grinding and vibrating thru the pedal and cant select gear .
so my question is does anyone know if this would be the box thats fukd along with the clutch and thrust bearing and has anyone ever had any problem the same
any help greatful thanks kev

Welcome to the site for starters
It sounds like if its been laid up for a while the release bearing might of got stuck or theres no oil in the box and what your hearing is the gears eating them selves
Id try another box in there you can pick up a 3i box up off ebay pretty cheap then just change your clutch and release bearing whilst the box is off that way you know your eleminating all the things it could be and your not going to have to do it again in a hurry.
mark.
Ps get some piccies up of the car in question

UPDATE got the box off found out ther was only 2 bolts holding the box and engine together and the three starter bolts the shaft that the release bearing goes on has sheared off the box and has shafted the clutch pressure plate so on the look out for a box and a new clutch kit now lol
will upload pics shortly

For things like the gearbox ebay's your best friend
For the clutch and release bearing most motor factors should be able to get you one off the shelf then your back up and running
