Default 2004 1.6L Duratec engine swap

Hi guys please can you help our situation, we like our little Sport KA but after using 3/4 of a tank to do 222.2 miles is pathetic, yup 30 litres of jungle juice, not sure how to work out the mpg but it's shocking for a guess.

is it easy to drop a 2004 1.6L Duratec engine into the KA engine bay, if it fits what do i need to use and do, or is thier any other engine we can use to get better mpg but staying with petrol, an eco boost would be fantastic but not a cost effective option.

Many thanks
J

The 1.6 sport Ka engine is badged as a duratec, do you mean the proper 16v duratec?

I don't think I've seen one done but if a 2.0 Focus RS engine fits then the smaller 1600 would fit, most Ford engine's bolt up to the Ka gearbox (Sport Ka starter is on the front but you can use an Endura gearbox if the donor engine has a starter on the back) so if you fabricate a mount and wire in the ECU you'll be done

The Mrs has a SportKA engine in a non sport shell, after having it mapped with a unichip she was getting 240/250 around the streets and 320+ on a run

SWR (off of South Africa) do a cam and ecu package that makes the Sport a lot better, they do a full kit with a de-cat manifold that makes 120hp which is up 25 from standard, it'll make it a lot nicer to drive but if it's fuel economy you're after then it would be cheaper to buy a different car

We changed the 1.3 to a 1.6 in the Mrs Ka because she wanted to keep the Aircon etc, most people ditch the engine and put a 2.0 litre but lose the extras like Aircon, I'd rather drive a slower car and have the aircon on than be able to drive faster an have no aircon lol

Fact is the sport is WELL known for its bad fuel economy.

My RST ka got about 29mpg back on the run from buying it and thats massively overfuelling and 200bhp!

My sport would never get over 250 on a tank unless it was a full motorway run with no traffic etc.

Although the sport is an excellent car IMO you should look at fiestas for economy.
