St170 holding back up the rev range updated with pics (29/5/16)
Just after a bit of info or if anyone has come across this.
When im going up the rev range from say 4k upwards the car is holding back and wont rev to the limiter. Ive swapped the coil pack over off the wifes focus and its still the same. Ive also tried plug leads of my mates car.
Also ive used his maf sensor too. Ive had my imcr apart and cleaned the connector inside. Ive got no engine lights on and ive tried my mates fault code reader on the car and there is no faults.
The car had new plugs when my mate had it but i dont know yet if these are at fault.
Im waiting for a fuel filter come to eliminate that.
When the engine is warm should the imcr pull the flap in the manifold open?? Cause mine isnt. I need to try it when the engine is cold. When i turned my ignition on with warm engine om getting a live to both wires to the electric motor in the imcr? Is this correct?

does sound like the imrc has thrown a wobbler as its not giving you the beans, apart from the intial start up once at running temp keep blipping the throttle around 4.5k and the cable should then pull on the flaps letting the stabled horses out, even if your wiring is good motor or gears can fail as these boxes are a pain in the ass

Can they not be swapped over. I noticed today on my way home from a course that the car is holding back from 3.5k onwards then the car is jurking and doesnt rev past 5.5k
If i did the clutch the engine will rev round to the limit.

I would try another imrc as my gut feeling is yours has packed up, all thats up with mine is the cable crimp part that holds the plastic connection on has come off so its got a chock block holding it

Ive done a quick google search and it seems to be a common problem.
I will try my mates imcr then go from there. Do the pumps just break down. I wouldnt care i changed a fuel pump/sender on my mam and dads old focus years ago cause the electrical connecter corroded and the pump was ok.

when I remove pumps thats all I do is cut a hole in the floor, pumps can fail but nowhere near as common as imrc I would still try your mates as at least you can rule it out without the aggro of getting involved in the tank

Thanks for the info. As said should it do this when its warm.
When my mate owned the car i can remember him saying the car had no power. That was cause of the imcr.
So what does the fuel pump module do then Ritchie. Do it regulate the fuel to the engine????

My mate Fiddy came round with his mondeo to try the imcr. Before i took his off i checked mine. Start the engine and the cable/inlet manifold flap moves. Rev the engine to 4.5k and it also move.
Ritchie i think you must be right it might be the fuel pump. Ive got a fuel filter come cause i doubt thats ever been changed then i will go from there. I will get searching for a fuel pump.
Thanks to Fiddy for pestering you.

It's not bad mate, it's awful, I was just expecting it to miss a bit and be sluggish, by the time we got back to yours, I thought I had whiplash

Well i changed the fuel filter today at work. I gave the car a good kicking on the way home and it was reving right round to 7k. I will keep trying it so hopefully ive fixed it.
