Default engine upgrades

I have a 2003 focus st170 and was wondering what the best engine upgrades to do for best power gain and should I leave the remapping till the end? Thanks

Not much. Induction is supposed to be near on its best already, just a panel filter in the standard box with an air deflector on the slam panel from an auto. Remove the resonator box from the side of the air box for the induction noise.

Everything else ties in to one another. Cam pulley and remap. Exhaust is pretty much spot on stock but not made from a top grade of stainless. Some report loss of power with a decat. Remap makes it more driveable, irons out flat spots etc..

There was a guy on another forum that did everything possible and made something like 1.7hp over factory figures!

Spend the money elsewhere IMHO, uprated brakes, bushes, ARB etc..

Yeah, the exhaust is about as good as it can be its just not made from a high grade stainless like aftermarket stuff. Just get a high performance panel filter in the air box and the air deflector. A remap will make it more driveable, you won't get serious hp gains from it so it's worthwhile just not a high priority IMHO on st170's

ARB is the anti roll bar. You can get uprated ones, iirc whiteline used to do an adjustable one.
Replace as many bushes as you can with poly bushes. A slight drop on good suspension that can be set up properly. Good tyres, lightweight alloys.

Uprate the brakes with drilled/grooved discs and fast road pads, proper braided lines.

Going fast isn't always about pure power, the ££££'s you'll spend chasing extra hp could be spent elsewhere and be more rewarding.

I thought of the SC/turbo route to. Once you spent all that money you would have been better off just buying a mk1 RS, which has alot better tuning options as well,
also for me the insurance is about the same for ST170 / mk1 RS.
