Default problems after using obd2 bluetooth code reader

Hi guys.

I bought a obd2 bluetooth code reader from ebay, to use with the torque app on my android phone (thought is would be cool to have all the readouts on my phone).
so i plugged it in to the car (st170) turned on the engine & straight away the tick over was jumping from 1500 to 500 rpm. After about a min or two the engine management light came on. used torque to read the code which is P0102 & re-set the light, but now my car has no power & the light keeps coming back.
i've checked the maf, that looks in good condition. unpluged it & that makes no difference besides throw up a couple more codes.
Has anyone else had problems with one of these devices? or know what the problem might be? I had no issues with the car before plugging this bloody thing in
Thanks

i think your maf sensor must be at fault mate, as for wether the code-reader is to blame, who knows...! maybe avoid using it again just incase. (perhaps a short circuit within the code reader has back-fed a current into the ecu, potentially frazzling it!)
do a bit of research online and youll find how to test your maf sensor, you'll be looking for approx 1 volt between 2 of the wires, which should go upto nearly 5 volts when the throttle is blipped! then there should be something like a 12 volt supply voltage to another wire and then one more wire should be direct to earth!
dont take my word for this, my memory of it is a bit sketchy, but you should be able to find it online somewhere!

Hope that helps!

if it checks out as it should then maybe the code-reader has done the dirty on the ecu, but hopefully not.

Thanks for the reply greasenuts. the ecu is what i was thinking (worst case). i have bought a meter to test the maf and i will post when i have a chance to test it.
in the mean time if anyone else has any suggestions it would be great to hear your opinion.

Quick update. took the car for a drive today. after about 10 minutes another light came on. it was a yellow light with what looks like a cog with an exclamation mark in the middle. so i pulled over turned the engine off, turned it back on and the light went out. Anyone know what this is?
