Default ST170 xenon problems....

Hi guys,

I've had this problem on and off for a while now, but I need to sort it because the MOT is due soon.

My ST170 has the (factory fitted) xenons, but the nearside doesn't work.

I swapped the bulb with the offside one and it still didnt work. So, to save taking things to bits I decided to swap the entire headlight assemblies over and see what happened - same problem. So it looks as if there's a wiring issue or something similar.

What happens is, I turn the switch to the dipped beam position and the offside comes on as you'd expect. The nearside however comes on, sometimes for a second, sometimes for 4/5, then goes out. Just as it goes out, the main beam and indicator lights on the dash flash (faintly) and externally the indicators themselves flash, as does the nearside driving light in the bumper. Very strange....

What seems to trigger the problem is using the windscreen washers, or flashing the main beam.... Once it's started playing up it can be like this for weeks before returning to normal!

Any ideas anyone? Has anyone got a wiring diagram?

Thanks guys!

Sounds like a bad earth, check all the earths around the battery/airbox area, they can get corroded.
