ST170 - Rusty & Leaking Sump
Well the oil sump on my ST170 is in a pretty poor state, leaking, corroded all over and in desperate need of replacement. Has anyone got any advise or words of wisdom before I tackle the job? I am thinking of getting a non-genuine replacement sump and obviously some kind of sealer to do the job.
Hello,
Found this when searching for the same problem with my ST170, not sure if this will help but I have two options for my issue.
Wire brush the oil sump and spray with Lithium grease (my sump isn't leaking that badly) and see how it gets on.
If that doesn't stop the problem, then I'll buy a replacement from eBay and replace myself - at least a two hour job as garage I trust and use regularly told it it would cost around £350 for parts and labour.

Its because most garages will quote the original ford sump part, which costs £250, not the OEM ones you can get for around £50. As you say, two hour job, bit messy, but ultimatley saves a bundle of hard earned cash.
