This is a common fault on the CD player fitted to the ST170, ton and tons of these fail, its needs replacing, cheapest thing to do is fit an aftermarket one or find a working one second hand.

Mine had an aftermarket Sony unit fitted that did not work with the stalk controls, so i bought a single cd ford 6000 unit from ebay, Ł40, and also an ipod adapter cable, around Ł25 also ebay, that connects to the cd changer plug on the back of the 6000 unit and hey presto the best of both worlds.............

Ps there are forum threads around, if you search hard enough, that advise how to correct the problem with the 6cd changer Ford unit. That is providing yours is not beyond repair.

Have a look on youtube, theres a few videos showing how to take it apart and what commonly jams.

I had the same problem when I got my focus. I took the 6006 out and could see the CD stuck in the mechanism so just got it out by hand. Hasn't jammed since. I've heard that they're more likely to jam if you fill up all 6 slots, but could be wrong. Having said all that I've ordered an aftermarkit unit anyway
