Pull out the airbox (it pulls upwards, might be stiff though), then underneath on the side of the inlet manifold is a plastic lever with a cable attached to it. Make sure it is still connected and it pulls round 90 degrees when you start the engine.

That fault is normally thrown up when you change the cam belt inccorectly without loosening off the cam pullies, when was the cam belt last done. Could also be the sensor playing up obviously, the sensor is under the plug cover on the left hand side of the cam cover near the inlet pully

I have tested this and the cable is connected and it does move about 90 degrees on start up.

any other ideas ? thanks

this could be the case as the belt was done recently and i have changed the cam sensor.
Is there any way to tell for certain that this is the case ?
